His career has been pretty similar to Giroux's. For some stretches he's been the best player in the world and has always been consistently good. But the direction of this team won't be to build around another 28 year old. - Baxter27
Think so too.
With the age of the d-prospects you basically are forced to go young up front. |

Maybe I just think the Islanders will screw it up. - J35Bacher
Or you could hang out for an hour and discuss the definition of close. |

There really is no evidence to suggest Tavares won't re-sign with the Islanders either. They'll have the motivation and cap space to extend him. - PhillySportsGuy
As long as he doesn't hire Allan Walsh as his agent it should be expected |

I'd be weary about going after Tavares. You ditch Giroux only to sign another mega deal for a superstar who is likely exiting his prime? I'd rather take my chances that Giroux can recover or adjust his game. - Baxter27
LOL it is the best
Giroux and Voracek are going to be on the wrong side of 30 and getting paid over 8 million!!!!
They arent worth the money!!!
Sign a 28 year old to a huge contract!!!! |

Keep in mind we're talking about the Isles here. If there's a way to screw something up and pat yourself on the back at the same time they will find it. |

A couple of my hockey buddies were asking me about Giroux the other night and that's exactly what they said....Giroux used to be the best player on the ice in 90% of their games .....like only 2-3 years ago. - landros 2
Throw in marriage and surgery and those years start getting calculated in DOG years!

Exactly... and keeping Giroux and Voracek allow them to find those guys without rushing them. When they arrive is when you consider trading who they're replacing.
Provorov and the rest of the D being 5 or 6 years older isn't an issue for me. How much older was Keith and Sebrook than Toews and Kane? |

If
1) Boston loses every game from here on out
2) Islanders lose every game from here on out (except against Bruins)
3) Tampa Bay loses every game from here on out (except against Bruins)
4) Carolina loses every game (except against Islanders)
5) Flyers win every game
Flyers make the playoffs. - jmatchett383
This will be right after we defrost Walt Disney and rebuild Fantasyland.

Especially the way contracts have been escalating. Tavares puts in another quality year and he's making over 10.
Meanwhile, Giroux will be halfway through his deal with his salary declining each year. |

I just can't imagine a point where he'd reach free agency with the Islanders. They'll offer him a yuge deal and if he turns it down, they have to trade him.
OTOH, they aren't exactly a well run organization, so I guess anything can happen. |

Would you:
Trade Simmer, Sanheim, and our first to Colorado for Duchene, Rantanen and the top pick? |

Tavares really has them over a barrel though. What are they going to do? Plunge themselves back into a rebuild? If anything, I think they'll go out of their way to overpay him if they need to. |

Fraude Gipoox 29 yrs old 5 yrs left at over 8 mil!!! Rather have a goal scorer making $3 mil less and use that money to go towards a top LW. Move Filppula to 1C and Couturier 2C |
