Honestly, I don't whether to be happy or infuriated by last night's game. I never like to see my favorite team lose, so I'm happy that they won. BUT, I'm infuriated that they can't put out efforts like this, especially on the road, on a much more consistent basis. Look, I'm a realist, I don't expect them to be up there with Pittsburgh, Washington or Columbus, but if they had just shown this kind of drive and effort in just 7 or 8 other road games in which they were just rolled over, and had just gone on to win 4 of those games, than we'd be sitting here with 84 points and would be in a playoff spot right now.
This lack of consistent effort is nothing new. In fact, it's been going on for years. Too often, this team only seems to play well when their backs are up against the wall and, at least this year, it's too little, too late. We've seen it under Lavy, under Berube and now under Hak, so it's not the coaching. This is on the players and this is why I'd like to see a core forward or two moved in the offseason. The personality and character of this team needs to change. - BiggE
I think they finally took advantage of a team that was on top of the mountain and slipping off. We finally pushed them off that mountain. Minnesota was a good team for most of the season, not their goaltending is falling off worse than our own. Normally all it takes in a situation like this is for any team to stick their back up in and we lose. The amount of odd man rushes given to us was unbelievable.
I don't care a high draft pick. I'm hoping we flip it this year to improve the roster. I'm with you though. I don't think we are what we are. I think certain players are better than what they've shown, there for we should be a better team. |

The Flyers played a decent defensive road game. They came out on top. They had little to zero sustained offensive zone time and hardly any top scoring chances. The Read goal was lucky timing on a failed dribbler from Voracek. The Couturier goal was a fortunate slide through the pads of Dubnyk. In short the Flyers managed to NJ Devils the Wild last night. Mason looked solid. |

I think looking back, even at those 'flip the switch teams' the talent was so much greater.
Hell - when they made a run against Chicago the team was stacked. Carter, Richards, Hartnell, Briere, Gagne, JVR, Timonen, Pronger, Coburn, Carle. A dominant fourth line and a red-hot Leino.
All the knocks on Hak, and I am the first to call him out... This team needs more talent. It starts and ends there for me. |

And the Wild goal was a misplayed cover dribbling near the crease.
Hockey is a game of capitalizing both on chances you create and mistakes by the other team. The Flyers were better at that than Minnesota was last night.
Let's also discount the play Couturier made to corral a back that was behind his back, because it's more fun to imply that they were no-skill goals. |

When the Wild scored my first thought was this is why I hate when goalies talk. Not saying what he said about effort was wrong just that I prefer them not talk because they make there own mistakes and players can't make comments about goalies.
Mason got bailed out of a bad misplay.

Yay he received a difficult pass! He was only chosen 8th overall in the draft. Most all-stars in the league would have received that pass turned and gone bar-down. I'm just happy Couturier was able to sneak it through Dubnyk's wickets. |

Well I'm glad to know that being taken in the top-8 is a surefire way to be a star NHL player. Why did we basically give away 5th overall pick Luke Schenn? Think we could get former 4th overall pick Thomas Hickey to anchor our blueline?
Nevermind, it's way more fun to say no Flyers have any skill whatsoever. |

If
1) Boston loses every game from here on out
2) Islanders lose every game from here on out (except against Bruins)
3) Tampa Bay loses every game from here on out (except against Bruins)
4) Carolina loses every game (except against Islanders)
5) Flyers win every game
Flyers make the playoffs. - jmatchett383
So what you are saying is its possible |

When was the last time one of the Flyers forwards who have been All-stars (Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds) did that? |

Well, I think there's a strong possibility that Boston wins 3 or less games for the rest of the season. That's kinda close to one of those scenarios. |

Matt Read looked pretty good last night. I guess he was pretty excited to be off the 4th line. That said, not sure I liked Konecny there in that spot either.
Agree on playing Schenn with Couts. Always liked those two together. |

I would like to see Konecny added to the Couturier line but with that line is playing well with Weise so it's hard to make the change.

This is why I think our core and Hak are safe this offseason. We just haven't had the depth or talent. And it's been an issue for years. I think Hexy wants to see what this team looks like with prospects like Lindblom, Two of Morin/Hagg/Sanheim before we ship out an impact player. |

If Read looks like that in the games that Vegas is watching, he will be their pick.
I think he is already the logical pick for them. A solid two way forward who can get a ton of responsibility before they can flip him at the deadline. |

True dat.
Dont think one would get much for Giroux or Voracek anyway, so may as well keep them. FA is dead, and where would they spend the money?
For core guys to trade I think you have to look at Simmonds or Schenn. |

For me I still think it has to be Giroux. I know he's looked better but I just feel he isn't going to recover like people think. Maybe I get by with Filpulla and Couturier in 2017 and take a run at Tavares if available in 2018 offseason. - J35Bacher
I'd be weary about going after Tavares. You ditch Giroux only to sign another mega deal for a superstar who is likely exiting his prime? I'd rather take my chances that Giroux can recover or adjust his game. |

If you're Hextall, do you say to Vegas they can have a 2017 4th if they take Weise instead?
We have three of them.

Want nothing to do with Tavares. The Islanders have been crap but I have never had that 'wow' factor from him (although the points are there). Maybe just me.
For what he will want, and the age no thank you. Not the most fleet of foot guy either.
Also doubt he hits FA. He bacially is the Islanders. If he leaves, wtf does that club have. They will offer him the world. |

Meh, I'm not giving any assets to Vegas to protect anyone exposed. They can have 1 of Read, Weise, Bellemare or Raffl. All 4 can be useful players but none are critical to the team's success or future.

There really is no evidence to suggest Tavares won't re-sign with the Islanders either. They'll have the motivation and cap space to extend him. |

His career has been pretty similar to Giroux's. For some stretches he's been the best player in the world and has always been consistently good. But the direction of this team won't be to build around another 28 year old. |
