yeah... a guy like him exactly... and his cost wouldnt be over the top so when the group of kids start to come off their ELCs his signing wont hamper the team - Dozzer
I don't know if we need to worry too much about the ELCs from now. If we can add Alzner and/or another high priced guy, like Shattenkirk, I think it's a move you make. Leafs haven't had trouble moving salary out. We got teams to take Phaneuf and Clarkson without giving up anything of value. Hell, we got a 2nd and a prospect for Dion, not to mention a nice sound bite about how Ottawa didn't focus on skill, from said prospect.
If time comes we need to dump a Martin to be able to sign the rookies, I don't see it being an issue. |

You guys are all funny.
If anyone said at the beginning of the year, the last place Leafs would be challenging for a playoff spot in March, everyone would have thought that person was insane.
Now that it's happening, everyone seems to be on board with selling assets, making the playoffs at all costs, etc.
Patience people. Last year we bottomed out. This year, we made significant strides up the standings. The team is being led by 7 rookies. Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Zaitsev, Hyman, Brown, Soshnikov.
Help is on the way. Hunter will keep drafting, Lou will keep trading, and the team will improve. No need to rush the process. The management team knows the weaknesses of this team and they will fix it the right way, not the JFJ and Burke way - ILoveLamp
all??

I like to see at least one of Dermott, Neilson or Valiev up next season.
Alzner really looks like a fit to me, again if available, probably at a 5 mil per cost. - LeafMan
Aren't the Leafs also looking at a couple of Russian d-men? Wouldn't mind a couple more Zaitsevs. |

Hopefully they have size. Leafs need to get bigger back there (not Marincin beanpole bigger).

He's up there for sure, no doubt about it. But that doesn't mean that he's perfect, and if anything, at times that makes some of his decisions and preferences even more baffling. We're obviously much better off with him than without him, but there's still room for improvement. - lumlums

Chicago added hossa and Campbell ( and a fail on khabibulin)
LA added Carter and Richards (instrumental in 1st cup).
At some point you have to build from trades and free agents to make the team better; to get immediate results.
Is next year too early? Maybe, but I don’t think it is. |

toronto needs major core players. you can't often buy those. chara with boston is one of the only examples i can think of. niedermayer in anaheim is another i suppose. |

I don't think aquiring a defencman would hurt the future.. but not acquiring one would..
No one including myself was saying we should trade any young player for D help.. just JVR/Bozak..
You guys are always quick to say we are over reacting, but really we are just thinking of how to improve the team. Lou will make trades this summer, Hunter will draft, Babs will coach and the team will grow with time..

Alzner may be interested in a 2 year deal if the Leafs overpay. |

You can win with young players in today's NHL.. I think the Leafs best chance is in about 2-3 years.. |

I agree. Malkin, toews and kane all won their first cups on ELC deals. 2 years from now is not out of the question ... if we add dmen. |

richards was dominate for LA in his early years there. carter is their top goal scorer.
hossa is a hall of famer and was one of the top 2-way wingers in the game. campbell shouldered a huge load for keith and seabrook during their early years. keith/seabrook took a step back the first year that campbell left.
hardly depth players in my book. bold moves will be needed. |
