He's no Laine or Werenski or Tkachuk
(On a more serious note, he is no Mitch Marner.) - Aetherial
Marner's great... |

Hey. Maybe Auston Matthews will wake up before his total disappearance hits 13 games again.
Sorry to criticize the golden child, but this periodic disappearing act where he appears completely disinterested for weeks at a time is a little annoying. I hope he grows out of it. - Aetherial
He's playing tough minutes, matching up against top lines and doing all the little things right.
When he doesn't score, he's not getting scored against. |

Matthews not utilizing his super hockey skillzzz until he needs to. - Arctic_AARDVARK
The playoffs? |

He didn't disappear last time, he still had chances like usual. This time he looks slow and isn't winning battles anymore. Either tired or hurt would be my guess. - daeth
Yes, last time he was getting lots of chances. This time nothing. Would be nice if Babs put someone else beside Hyman on his wing... imo |

Trying too hard. - mcleafs
I would like to say that, but he has been mostly invisible and looks like he is skating in mud. He honestly looks sick, injured, or tired or a total lack of effort.
This is almost exactly how he looked when he had his long rough patch. When he is on, he has lot more energy and looks like a totally different player. |

Earlier in the season he had that goalless streak but I thought he was playing great, they just weren't going in. He might be a little tired now but dont be surprised if he has some more big games. |

Anecdotally, he looks much different now than 3 weeks ago.

Yeah, I think that would be expected... it would be bad if he didn't. This is the 3rd time this year he has spent at least 2 weeks looking really uninvolved.
The long streak early in the season, he was getting chances but he was playing a total perimiter game. Now, he just looks like he has no energy or desire.
Marner is awesome.

Points based reverse analysis. Watch him when he doesn't have the puck too. And particularly in the defensive zone. |

I said it from the start. Leafs should have drafted anybody except Mathews. He's not very good. He hasn't shown anything this year that would prove me wrong. |

Do you think Ottawa would still give us Dion back if we could unload Matthews on them? |

What's a perimiter game, or did you just read that somewhere? Does that mean he doesn't go to the net? |

Weird, I'm watching the game on Rogers CBC channel 514, and it changes the channel itself to the channel 6 feed. I was nowhere near the remote. |

Honestly? I can't answer that. Would they risk dealing somebody who was wrongly vilified for being poop here? |
