At this point I'm kind of expecting to hear that G is going to have some sort of surgery once the season is over. There were times when he looked like he had no interest carrying the puck and was just looking for the quickest pass.
This offseason will be quite interesting. I fully expect them to draft BPA wherever their pick ends up falling but I really think there's a case to be made that they also make a move with one of the D prospects for a young Center prospect with top 6 upside. Maybe a Barzal, Colin White, Eriksson Ek or Kyle Conner. - hereticpride
IMO he has looked like that all year. He doesn't IMPOSE himself on anyone anymore. He used to try to take it to the net, make a play. He isn't the same anymore and I really hope its an injury of some kind.

Last night observations:
- Flyers looked to be moving well and really playing a solid game before the goal.
- Giroux....Thought the turnover was lazy and unnecessary. Something I expect from a rookie...not my captain. Also not just the pass but the defensive effort after wasn't great.
- All 3 lines looked to be moving well. With Konecny coming back supposedly Saturday I think I am curious who sits. Think it might be Cousins. Weal looked good. I think Konecny could slide next to Couturier and Read to make another solid line.
- 3 points back..... Not giving up hope.
- Gostisbehere was firing the puck. MacDonald looks to be playing with confidence.
- Mason was solid all night.

I'm referring to trading one of Sanhiem/Hagg/Morin/Myers for a center prospect. I'm not interested in trading Ghost or Provorov if that's what you're getting at. - hereticpride
What he is getting at is when those players are actually in the NHL playing regularly, they will have even more value than they have now. |

Only been a couple games but Weal has looked good. He skates hard and always seems to be working. A lot more noticeable on 1st line than Raffl.
A win is a win however they must "finish" a lot better IF there is any hopes of reaching playoffs. We will get a better look of what shape they are in when they play the best team in the NHL Saturday

Gostisbehere was shooting the puck, but still missing the net in key opportunities. He also struggled in his own end. That was the first game watching Weal play where I thought he might be able to play in the NHL. He had a strong game.

He still got 7 on net.
Before he didn't seem to be shooting with confidence.
Weal looked good. Got in hard on the forecheck. Made some nice plays. |

Mason with another strong game. Gets more interesting all the time around here. The real test will be the next 2 games, @WAS and @BUF. They need to get at least 2 points from these 2 road games if they really think that they can make a run to the last wildcard spot.
Mason will have to play at least as well as he did last night to avoid a road loss to the Caps. If not, they will need a win in Buffalo just to stay afloat. Let the games begin.

If it's not a specific injury but rather just the combination of aging and a decade of wear and tear, the Flyers are really in a bind. |

The Flyers looked pretty dangerous all night.. Its was great to watch.
The Shlipacek line killed it last night. They had immediate chemistry.
Mason had an amazing game yet again. Oddly enough it was tweeted out last night that Mason said that the Flyers never approached him with contract negotiations. Not sure I understand that one.
Cousins had one of his worst games as a Flyer IMO. He turned the puck over a handful of times, was constantly getting pushed around and put on the ground. Didnt look good last night.
When healthy I wanna see the lines like this..
Weal-Giroux-Simmer
Shlipacek
TK-Couts-Cousins
Luby-VDV-Read

You want Vandevelde in over Bellemare??
edit: other than your Bellemare omission, I'm cool with this for now. I would though flip TK and Cousins and let them play their natural sides. However, we both know that the coach will never sit Vandevelde, but I'd put Lyubimov in over Read right now. |

I'd sit Read before Cousins. - BiggE
I would normally think that but with Couturier being more a 3rd line role now I think I prefer Read over Cousins.
Weal - Giroux - Simmonds
Schenn - Filppula - Voracek
Read - Couturier - Konecny
Lyubimov - Belleamre - Vandevelde
I wouldn't totally be against putting Weise in for Read though. |

Rather have Weise than Vandevelde but that's not happening. |

Caps have won I think 15 or 16 straight home games. Will need to score 3+ tomorrow to have a chance. Colorado left town, and it was right back to 1 goal a game. The inability to score goals over this prolonged period of time is hard to believe. |

Honestly, I'd rather have Cousins drawing penalties and driving the opposition nuts, over Read doing very little and Weise doing pretty much nothing at all. |

He was ok, but he can't seem to finish at all anymore. At least Cousins has decent hands and, like I said before, the added bonus of causing the opposition to take a bad penalty or 2.

Like I said, it will take the combo of Mason standing on his head and some luck to beat the Caps tomorrow. They are my pick to go all the way this year. They have no weaknesses that I can see.

If that is what we are hoping for then that's limited.
Read played well last night.
Ideally I would love to scratch Vandevelde but I have stopped trying so didn't even go there. |

"Coots" looked like poo last night. He had that one time to bury the biscuit, and yes...the puck was jumping, but c'mon stone hands, make frigin contact with the puck when you're on the doorstep.
I don't understand the love affair with "toothy" either. SMH
Captain G with another "hustling" game. Dude, just take yourself out of the lineup and admit that you're injured or worse, have no more passion. |

If the choice is Read or Vandevelde, that's a no brainer for me. I guess, for me, it just comes down to I'd rather see a kid like Cousins in the lineup right now over guys like Vandevelde, Read, and Weise. No matter how they play over the next month, this team is not contending this year. We know what those 3 vets bring to the table so lets see more of what guys like Cousins and Weal can do.

However, this would require talking Hextall into firing Hak, so don't hold your breath |
