6 points out 4 teams to leap frog deadline a few days away. scoreboard watching is the enemy at this point, i just want to see the young players get better.

The likes of Baptiste (21), Bailey (21), and Rodriguez (23) have given me hope for the future...

Its easy to forget how young our core is: Eichel (20), Rhino (21), Risto (22), and even Girgs (23)

Sabres winning a bunch of games will convince me they are getting better.

they get strong showings from those guys and they could lose 22 in a row for all i care. obviously not going to happen if those guys play well but you get my point.

This is why I think its completely acceptable to look at guys like ROR and Okposso as veterans. Probably dont really need anyone over 30 on this team. Gionta is nice because he won a cup. Besides that, dead weight.

Looks like the reported price for Shattenkirk is a first-round pick, an elite prospect, and another asset

You can name the asking price, doesnt mean you're going to get it!

Final score is what matters . You lose ? you played like crap. The thing that stands out to anyone (everyone) is the final score of the game . Pretty much all that's cared about.

My point was its basically irrelevant at this point. 6 points out 4 teams to chase, im looking forward the result of these final 20 or so games means far less to me at this point than the development of the players. They'll be the backbone of our team when these games actually start to matter and the team is in a position to actually get those results.

Seems you missed the point . They started to matter when the season started . They have sucked for most of it because of being new together and injuries. Team hasn't been together long enough to establish any type of depth or stamina . Finally seeing the team playing like a team is what we all hoped for . but a lot earlier in the season. Hope it isn't too late. Just need to play a little better (win) than the teams above us. They win out these last 20 some games ? Yep , I would consider them REAL good.

These games now matter. 6 points is nothing, especially when you play the next two games against the worst two teams in the league. Grab these 4 points and win at home against the Preds before the trade deadline and you're 2-4 points away worst case.

Seems too many forget . In order to make the playoffs you have to WIN. not play good. Play as good as your heart lets you. You don't win and you wasted an opportunity.

I was kind of surprised at your positive vibe as a Buffalonian but then noticed you made it out to Vegas. How's it going?

And they stopped mattering when they fell this far back. injuries and chemistry are part of it, but not the whole reason they arent very good right now.

Im not saying i wouldnt like to see them win, just that i dont expect them to make the playoffs therefore the wins arent nearly as big a deal to me as player development. If they win thats great, if not thats okay. They should be cutting out the dead weight and focusing on the young players in either scenario.

And then lose one and suddenly your back to 6 points out. its not the total number, its the set up. Its what the NHL wants, every fanbase pretending its got a shot. So many 3 point games and teams to catch. Priority should still be building towards the future not a long shot 8th place run.

And in order to win you have to have a good team. And to have a good team you need to develop good young talent.

Fair enough. These 20 games will be a great test. We already know who the dead weight players are. Lets see if our new core can carry them for the rest of the way and win .

This team isn't good because everything that could have went wrong making them so, did.

Bad chemistry

Injuries

Coaching

Inconsistency

Slow development

Etc...

No Eichel injury and I think we're in a playoff spot, 1-2 pts away at worst.

Idk, we're at a -20 goal differential. He plays the first 20, he has 15-20 more points. We'd still be at an even goal differential and it's not like all his points would have come in those games we lost by a goal.

I think we'd be in the same position honestly.

Valid point, but as others have reminded me...every team has injuries. Good teams can overcome those. You're right we would have probably been a few inches forward, but this team needs more than it has, either way.

I think Jack probably has us 9-7-5 instead of 7-9-5 in those first 21g. 4 pts up, we are still on the outside looking in though you're right.
