I think you are . . . correct.

And I think it's why a lot of energy is being spent today figuring out a way to get Martin Hanzal to Chicago.

Congrats on Jay McClement.

I would give the Hawk's 1st and 2nd and McNeil for Hanzal and AZ's 2nd (which is probably will not be too far behind the Hawk's 1st). OR I would give the Hawk's 2nd and 3rd and a "B" level prospect like McNeil for Hanzal.

Wont happen....not 2 picks for a 3rd line center

McNeil is like Morin.....I dont' think many Gms would want him at all. he's probably at the bottom of the "want" list.

I'll be shocked if they land Hanzal, even given Kruger's hand injury....which BTW if you add that to his $$$ contract he might become the next Bickell where you have to sweeten that pot this summer to have somebody take him off your hands.

This is how many wrist injuries know for Koo-ga?

Thanks for the update JJ. All those names bore me, but I can see a name like Eaves or Hanzal being a solid pickup for a lower round pick or a Gustafson or some spare piece if that would be enough.

I can easily see the "rolling 4 lines" thing come to a crashing halt in the playoffs when Hino or Schmaltz or Panik turns one over for a crucial goal against and Q staples their butt to the bench so I'm sure they can come in handy....

Not true.

0.54 points per game in his playoff career.

- Feds91Stammer

A minus 11 over the last 2 playoffs with pretty decent teams (Montreal and Minny).

exactly my point......and it will happen. They are young and the speed and ferocity of playoff hockey will be a learning curve.

Eaves is > 4th line player.

Any idea what Arizona wants in return for Hanzal?

If we give up schmaltz and 1st for a 3rd line center Bowman needs to be fired. Look at what every other team pays other then stan. We way over pay compared to most teams. No one is giving up a 1st or there top prospect for any rentals this year. and for sure not both.

Steve Smith is the D coach and runs the PK. Former EDM assistant.

Glen Wesley is the Director of Defenseman Development.

- BINGO!

Smith is a great guy. Used to live fairly close to me. Ran into him a couple of times. Was always very friendly.

Something like Vanek and a 2nd for Motte, a 1st, and a 4/5th sound better?
- Feds91Stammer

Not horrible because Detroit's 2nd is going to be pretty early in the 2nd round. I would think long and hard about it but, NO.

More than he is worth. A 1st would be a starting point is my guess.

He's not in game shape right now. Expected to return to the NHL lineup in a couple weeks though.

He would be a nice add. Big C who can play on the PK. Also a great guy to park in front of the net on the PP. Just not sure what the Yotes want for him.

far too early to say on the price. Pittsburgh just gave up a 2nd for a depth D man. Hainsey isn't even the best on the market.

Sharp, Hanzal will probably fetch 1sts.

Vermette fetched a 1st.

Game of chicken and somebody always cracks before the clock strikes 12.

By no means is he a superstar, but he could provide some skill and speed on the third line (plus he's a left winger).
- DarthKane

No way I would trade for player that is out with a concussion and expect him to help this year. They are too unpredictable.

He probably has so many bad habits from years in semi-retirement in Arizona, Q will pressbox him. Or he gets injured. Again.

So with Kruger still struggling with an injury...thoughts on if we might see him shelved on LTIR to heal up and provide the Hawks some flexibility in the cap?

I would take Bickell back for one reason. He can pound the crap out that midget Spurgeon And Pietrangelo.

if we give up a 1st it better not be for a rental. Also everybody talks about how physical the playoffs are. I also think the Speed is huge as well. In the playoffs everybody finish off hits and goes 100% each shift. Just remember that when you are talking about Vanek, hanzel, and Eaves. on really good teams those guys are 3/4 line rentals so 1st and top prospects should not be involved.
- kmw4631

Agree. No 1st Hanzal, Boyle, Eaves, Vanek.

Ask Kessler if speed can offset physicality.
