We are just lucky the Jets picked Laine over Matthews - senstroll
I like the 2 way center, over a high scoring winger.. Laine is not near the level defensively.
It is the Sid / OV thing again.. |

Here's the question, who has the better chance of being (at least closest to) the equal:
Matthews to Sid
Or
Laine to Ovi |

My opinion only,,,,, Laine has a tremendous shot. He may have a better shot than OV. He also has Scheifele as his center.
But, Matthews has the 200 ft game and has scoring talent as well. Top centers are hard to find, glad the Leafs have Matthews. |

last years goalies lending a hand thank you Bernier and Reimer - Popcorn Kid
Can't believe they didn't start Gibson after Bernier let in 3 goals on 2 shots last game. (frank)ed up my pool. |

Hard to say
but I dont see Ovechkin as the comparable for Laine..at least not now.
Ovechkin gets a ton of shots.. as a 20yo Rookie he had 425 shots (5.25 game)
Laine is getting only 2.75...on 19.9% shooting. Thats a crazy high shooting %
Laine is more in line with Stamkos or Kovalchuk, both also started out as 18yo. and have high career sh%
Actually Kovalchuk is a close comparable..similar shot rates/goals as a rookie |

My fantasy pool said he was injured DTD and wouldn't get the start. Explains why Mandela was in Net. |

Kovalchuk was several tiers above him as a skater and way more dynamic.
Stamkos is probably the closest in regards to how some of his goals are scored but he has more of a net presence. Laine scores most of his goals from a greater distance, that seems way less sustainable but it's way more impressive.
I don't even know the closest comparable. Brett Hull? Hull was a volume shooter too though with several 300+ shot seasons. I'm not sure he's even a half decent comparison. |

Not sure if i would really compare Laine to anyone. All the other players listed have more to their game then a wicked shot. |

If Babcock not putting Corrado into the lineup for 50 games is proof Corrado isn't good, is it also proof that Leivo isn't good?

It doesn't take multiple games to see how poor of a skater Corrado is. Until he improves that, he's going to continue to struggle in the NHL. |

Buddy couldn't even get in a game with guys like Marincin around. Toronto's forward depth is a little bit better than their defensive depth. A little bit. Yeah.
What a dumb question. |

2 different scenarios.
leivo kept his mouth shut and made the most of an opportunity when it finally came. he's forcing babcock to keep him in the lineup with his play.
corrado did the opposite. |

Comparable, and this is going to sound weird....but think of Mario as a winger, mostly in terms of size and shooting and slowing the play down. Mario as a goal scorer scored on a high percentage of his shots, and used his size and quick accurate release to just score. By no means do I think Laine or anyone else not named Gretzky is at the same level.
I'm not the first to say this, many of the so called experts have said the same. |

It's the point that just cause he didn't play doesn't mean it was right. He was good enough to split time with likes of polak hunwick and marincin.
Smith has played a ton this year, but he's been terrible.... But he's played so it's the right move. |

Mario created nearly all his offense by himself. Laine is more of a finisher. Bad comparison imo. |

Don't think he was good enough period....I'm sure not playing didnt help. He's in the AHL now and doing quite well, so he could earn his way back with the big club if he keeps it up. But, overall Burn, he didn't show enough in the games he did play. |
