Exactly I think Nelson is done here to be honest his days are numbered. - kasperrko
His numbers come off very cheap for me. He's not a clutch player at all. |

There's no doubt that Duchene makes the Isles a much better offensive team. But the point is are you willing to sacrifice the future and go all-in with Duchene and the rest of the roster the way it is?
"Yes" is a perfectly acceptable answer, but if that's the case then I think you (not literally you) are completely overlooking the fact that we have a career backup as our starting goaltender and a mediocre defensive corps. Those aren't things that are usually conducive to winning a Cup. - eichiefs9
The thing about the future is that no one can predict the future. WE dont know if these guys who are considered the future will actually amount to anything. What we do know is that Duchene has already proved he can play here and can be an instant factor |

No he usually gets those garbage goals in the sense that he scores when the Islanders are far ahead or far behind |

But you can look at the present and see that we have a "sometimes good, sometimes not good" goaltender and average defensemen. That's my issue. Adding Duchene would be awesome, don't get me confused...I'm not arguing against him. But I'm not ready to throw out a massive haul of talent and put all our eggs in one basket. |

You still didn't answer about what you'd be willing to part with to get him. - eichiefs9
if its Barzal, he is the centerpiece along with CDH and a first
If they want Hamonic instead of CDH then no first maybe a 3rd
if its Pulock, then MDC or JHS and a second...
again flexible depending on what is asked, but it would be a you can only pick 1 from column A entree and then we would work off an ala carte menu |

I think that Barzal AND Pulock is too much. But, I also realize that you will be losing this trade head to head in order to address a need thats been holding this team back. There are enough prospects, that trading a few shouldnt set this team back.
As for the goaltending, its looked pretty decent thus far, and while its not a franchise type goalie, perhaps Sorokin is that guy? Either way, to me, there's nothing that can't be had. We've seen Cory Schneider get moved etc. Players can be had, and the isles have the assets. What they dont have is a GM who's able to make decisions on what it will take to round out a cup team........so he hoards and we wait. |

Duchene is legit. He reminds me of a Zach Parise. He's a perfect combo of speed and skill. |

I don't think any of those get it done. Any pick going the other way is going to be a first, that's a given.
MDC/JHS have very little value, as far as other GM's will be concerned. I'd move Hamonic, but he's now on 3 consecutive seasons with long-term knee injuries...that won't help his cause. CdH is nice but hardly the defenseman that COL is dying to pick up.
I'm not just trying to be argumentative, but COL has literally no pressure to trade Duchene. What motivation would Sakic have to give him up for anything less than a king's ransom? |

I do not expect JT numbers, but when the Isles are struggling and need a big play, Nelson cannot be found. Throw a big hit or jump in front of a shot. Do something to change the tide. Strome seems to care more and makes a better effort. |

Whats interesting to me, is the massive haul of talent that we speak about didnt make the isles roster for whatever the reason. |

Sakic has an astronomically high price set for Duchene and no need to move it.
That's what you can expect to deal for him. If you want to think they'll take less feel free to, but you'd be way off the mark. - eichiefs9
I do slightly disagree, I think the Duchene thing goes back to Roy's publicly bashing Duchene.. and Duchene and the Avs need the circus to end this has been going on for a while, so either Sacic comes out and says he isnt being moved or just moves him... the longer he holds on to him and that contract term dwindles.. the less teams may want to offer as just a 1 season rental next year |

Honestly....I don't know. It's an insanely hard decision. I see the merit on both sides. If you told me he could be had for Barzal OR Pulock, I'd probably hold my nose and go for it.
What I do know is that I firmly believe that just one of our top prospects won't get it done. That's where my issue lies. I don't know if I'd move Barzal or Pulock for him...but I do know that Sakic wouldn't move him for just one of those guys. |

Cappy thought sitting Barzal all those games was better because he could not play wing. |

I agree with you, but I dont think Sakic is going to wait any further than the trade deadline. He just is fielding offers and i believe going to pick the best one at the last hour. That being the case, Snow isnt going to get this done trying to trade value for value. Pulock from what I've read is being outplayed by Toews in bport. I dont see how trading any prospect would set the team back. Its not often that you have a player like Duchene available. |

But that doesn't fix any of their problems. Trading a guy for less than he's worth because there was a "circus" surrounding him and making your team worse will only create a far-larger circus-like atmosphere around the team. He's only shooting himself in the foot if he comes out and moves Duchene for a mediocre return.
They need to improve but trading his second best forward for a middling defenseman, a mid-round pick and a prospect who is not guaranteed to succeed won't make COL improve, in fact it would probably make them a lot worse in the short-term and, possibly, the long-term. |

I was really just speaking in hypotheticals, because I know that he's not trading him for just one prospect. |

I would be very happy with Tyler Johnson, but as you mentioned, he's not Duchene. At what point does this team make it a priority to land JT a winger. I realize that people have Duchene as a 2c, but he'd be playing with JT on the PP, and in my perfect world be his winger.
I think if a new GM came in, his first move in his first month would be getting JT a winger. The prospect pool is deeper than its ever been, so parting with a few pieces to land a bona fide 30 goal scorer is a must do. - kindlyrick
If we trade for Duchene, he's not going to be JT's wing. First line is fine for now. 2nd and 3rd line need buffering. |
