Arizona up on the Ducks 3-0
- Nighthawk

Now that theyre healthy i wouldnt be surprised to see them finish a head of the nucks this season. After the deadline we will probably drop to 29th with that schedule.

I am fine with this. If we can't trade at TDL I am more than happy with him being on our team next season, provided LV doesn't take him from us.
- Retinalz

I was listening in between periods of the Panthers /Blues game and they were talking about a lot of teams already making side deals with Vegas to protect their players.

See, you still can't see it lol. Their best players are all youthful, ours are old, except Horvat. They're trending up, we're still trending down, that's the part you can't see for whatever reason.

They're in an enviable position because they're already better than us with teenagers....that's the part that excites me. That's where I want Benning to go!

- LeftCoaster

Gotta see it from both sides though. 75 pts last year and possibly on pace for 85 this year…that's trending down? Is 95 pts next year and missing the PO's still trending down?

Sure we may finish with 75 again this year…and 85 next year..who knows?

But let's give Benning's plan more than 3 years to mature. Goodness it's taken the Flames 10 years to get to where they are and the leafs almost 50. Took the Jets close to 7 years to assemble a decent prospect pool and Philly hasn't fielded a great 4 line team since Hextall was their goalie. And you are down on the Nucks?

We are only 5 years removed from the cup final and sure WD might be replaced this summer which would be fine for a lot of people but Benning's plan needs time…and regardless of your opinion and vision of Benning's philosophies it may take another 3 years to assemble some more prospects and another 3 to develop them.

Bo Baertchi Granlund Sutter Eriksson Tree Stecher Hutton Gudbranson and soon Boeser Demko and Juolevi…man if you ask me we have a lot to look forward to and owe Benning some accolades for finally changing the faces of this franchise.

Burrows Hansen Edler Sedins will all be gone soon and maybe even Tanev and all that and the above potentially in 5 YEARS of Benning. Not 10 like the Flames or 50 like the Leafs, and not 7 like in WPG (although I do like what WPG is doing) and certainly not 20 years in Philly where they have STILL yet to acquire a no 1 goalie and a true top 4 D.

I guess your timeline differs from others but you have to admit it can be a tad confusing trying to figure out what you want somedays lol

You didn't think it through too well then. How do you start rebuilding through the draft handcuffed to all those contracts in the summer of 2015? It was contradictory to that idea when Benning signed the top two free agents to short term stop gap contracts inside the Sedin time frame. They were just buying time by trying to stay competitive short term.

He set out to inject youth into the roster and he has definitely done that. More high picks are coming. We are still developing a handful of good 1st rounders out of the NHL. So, yes we are treading water at the moment... but there are positive additions to our future going on at the same time. That's going to pay off if we play Logans Run and off the rest of our old players in a year or two.

- boonerbuck

On the contrary Booner, I thought it thru just fine! My premise is Benning made a wrong decision from the get-go, his decision to try and compete was incorrect, which has been proven right.

He should've, as I've stated, tried to build thru the draft immediately when he arrived. We all saw the team was done. NTC's and contracts have little to do with 1st, 2nd & 3rd round picks when you expect them to take two to three years to develop, or longer. We're talking about two years ago, 90% of those kids from the 2014 class would still be developing while current contracts run out.

And don't tell me you can't ask guys to waive, you can, and he did.

Anyone hoping to see Hansen traded should consider the fact that upon submitting his 8 team list, Benning has 45 days to trade him before that list is voided. Benning will have to have an offer in front of him before talking to Hansen.
Once the list is voided he basically would then have a full no trade clause, so do not be surprised if this is an off season deal or maybe next TDL.

- Reubenkincade

I'm not privy to the details of Hansen's contract clauses like you may be; however, are you sure? I didn't know the limited NTC on 8 team list is a one time event only.

By not admitting that the flames or leafs needed a rebuild is the reason why they took so long to trend up. If we committed to a rebuild after the flames smashed us in the playoffs we would be a couple years away and possibly with mcdavid and/or mathews on the team.

Well said .

The reality is you can't change 10 players on your team every year. We went through a huge youth movement , Benning has a draft pick playing full time with the Canucks and making an impact and I am sure Boeser will be in the line up next year .

Draft picks should be spending time in the minors ,plain and simple.

As long as we change one player a year this team will be fine.

I posted a cost per point on the page before and currently right now are wasting a lot of cap space on poor productivity. That will change once Burrows Hansen the twins are gone .

It will get better.

If by some chance we go backwards we will get high picks and that is what he wants but doesn't want to pay the price to get that pick.

If he really didn't want to be traded he'd give 8 teams at the bottom of the league as his teams he'd go to. They wouldn't be trading for him, thus he'd remain a Canuck.

Canucks would likely tell him the teams interested and that they'd trade him to, and out of respect ask him which he'd prefer. Just my opinion on how it would play out.

My wife just said she went to high school with Joel Edmundson of the Blues. A school of 1000 kids at a time and she went to school with 2 nhl players. Other being Ferland. Brandon is a hockey hot bed.

It's not about 75 or 80 points, that's just too simplistic, in my opinion we're trending down because we still rely on veterans too much and we don't have replacements for them.

If the Sedins retired at the end of this year we'd be a worse team next year, thus, we're trending down. The Canucks are doing exactly what the Flames did and the reason it took them forever to get where they are today.

I'll be excited about kids when they actually play in the NHL, unlike others on here.

Not aimed at you but that kind of thinking is BS. Leafs have been building for years. same as the Flames Jets and Oilers.

Do you think Mathews Marner and Nylander are the reason they are finding success?

Kadri was drafted back when Hodgson was drafted and is also a huge part of the team same as Gardiner Reilly JVR and Bozo

They have gone through a decade of being on the bottom.

Matt Martin adds more than anyone realizes . They can play a little bigger and braver thanks to him. Getting better goal tending doesn't hurt also.

I like Tippett too but agree we have plenty of RW especially since we our stuck with eriksson for another 5 years

We have plenty of young D that dont really project to be top pairing although they are more tough to predict so unless its Liljegrin id prefer a center or LW but obviously depends whose on the board.

I really like suzuki in the mid 20s if we can land another 1st from Hansen.
