I think Rielly says all the right things and plays the game the right way. When Risto went after Matthews and Marner at the end of the Sabres came Rielly came right in to try to get to him. He played through injury. He just earned it I feel.

I agree. It's a close one. I think in the end Matthews will get it just because he's Matthews.

He entered the season with a ton of pressure with high expectations with all this media. And he ended up exceeding those expectations.

It's not even his shot that is most impressive. It's the way he creates his own (and others') chances with his stickhandling, hockey IQ, and his takeaways. He's also pretty damn good is the defensive zone. The Leafs drafted 1st OA on a good year. He's no McDavid, but he will be one of the better top picks this decade imo.

Glad we didn't tank this year instead. All the reports I've read suggest the top candidates this year aren't even close to the last couple drafts. Poor Colorado.

It's a tactic to avoid sounding like a clueless fanboy. Admit he's not the best ever before praising him for being amazing. It gives trolls less ammunition.

He's no Crosby, but he's pretty damn good. Better?

Aside from the big 3 rookies, all of Zaitsev, Brown and Hyman have more points than Jimmy Feces.

I hope Leafs scoop a good D for cheap at the TDL or before. I'll even use that up as this years Christmas gift.

It's a difficult call. Even though I just said that Matthews was "no McDavid", I'd be hesitant to even make a trade straight up between those two. McDavid puts up more points it seems, but from what I understand Matthews already plays a more well rounded game. I don't watch the Oilers enough to make a truly informed decision though. Probably wouldn't even trade him straight up for Crosby since he's so much younger and on an ELC still...Doesn't mean I think he's better than Crosby, but it doesn't make sense long term strategically.
