Weber is the PP specialist you think Schultz and Krug are. Weber is average at best at 5v5. - Feds91Stammer

I'm not discounting points, as you need to score to win games, and Schultz is very adept at that. And I don't think his defensive game, while not dominate, is horrendous, either. However, maybe I'm way too old school, but I've always felt that a defenseman should be a good defender first, and then a good offensive player second. Paul Coffey should never have won a Norris because he was a turnstile defensively. I think that guys like Schultz and Krug are good players who should play 2nd/3rd pair matchups with top PP time. But if I had to pick a type of player for the Norris, I'll take a player who plays all manpower situations, can be out in the last minute of a game whether you're winning or losing by one goal, and still puts up good point totals.
Right now, my finalists would be Hedman, Weber, and Werenski. - jmatchett383
Not much of a best defense is a good offense guy eh? |

There's been some speculation from guys like DK, Yohe, TIOPS and I even think Dreger or someone like him commented on it a little while back. I can't remember which one of those analysts like Dreger talked about it, but the mentioned how Schultz could be extended prior the season's end making around the same money as Maatta. |

Yeah, I know corsi and such.
He's actually have a pretty great season this year. But what do I know, I only watch him more often than when my favorite team plays against Montreal. - jmatchett383
Weber hasn't been very good the last 15 or so games production wise. |

If they get him for around 4mil.. I guess I'm okay with that, I'd prefer 3.5-3.75 per |

I'd prefer a guy like Bobby Orr or Ray Bourque preferably, the best 2 defensemen of all time, but guys like Niedermayer, Pronger, Blake, MacInnis, and Lidstrom were all great players even if you remove their offensive numbers. To me, you have to be a great defender first, and then add the offense to get the Norris. |

That's what I was hoping for as well, but if he keeps this up he could cross the $4M threshold and price himself out of the Pens. If I were JR, I'd try and lock him into a $4M/3 year deal right now if he'd go for that.
I also have to think, while he's not an old player, he's going to place term a little higher than salary. $3.75/4 years would be fair IMO. |

Oh and Weber has poopty relative 4v5 metrics as well. Just because he gets a lot of ice time doesn't mean he is actually successful. |

I didn't say "success", I'm asking why he leads his team in SH TOI if he's nothing but a PP specialist. Unless every coach he's ever had at the NHL level has horribly misused him by putting a guy who's nothing but an offensive PP specialist on the PK. |

Because MT is a poop coach. I was talking about PP specialist in his actual abilities not his actual usage. |
