I'm shocked people on twitter distorted what was actually said.

This is the coach calling a player who plays 17 ES minutes a game a 2nd pairing defenseman, and positively gushing about the potential of Ghost. And yet it's supposed to be terrible and controversial, like Hakstol committed the next Bowling Green Massacre.

It is possible that it came across differently in another session. They typically do 4 or 5. I wasn't there this year so no lengthy report from me. Sorry.

Someone's defending Panotch, calling him a knowledgable expert?!

This place never ceases to amaze.

Patrick O'Sullivan is one of the most ardent analytics deniers on social media. He talks about it constantly to berate those who use them.

Teams have the best analytics. The very best. It would make your head spin.

Let me just tell you Dave Hakstol is such a great guy. Such a great guy. It was very very classy of him to respond to that total loser woman -- she was not nice, not very nice to him. And I will tell you that she got schlonged by Hakstol. Believe me. Her question was a total disaster.

I have no knowledge of his opinions on analytics. I just found it curious that he acknowledged that teams have stuff that fans don't. That isn't a surprise to me.

I wish we had someone with a degree in sports analytics to refute this, but alas, orangekrush2010 is no longer welcome here
- Mononoke

So he knows what is available to you and I by scouring the internet and what each NHL team has at their disposal? That is some degree.

It's almost like if I read WebMD enough, then I can know just as much as real doctors.

I just wish someone could actually specify what they have that makes them better that's of this opinion....because if you say they're on merit better, then you need to explain what makes them better.

More efficient with analytics companies? Yes. But everything is crowdsourced online anyway. Maybe some advanced software to more easily detect patterns and whatnot? Probably. But is it really anything mind-blowing and difference making? And I call BS anyway that the Flyers 1) heavily use them and 2) there exists statistics they use that justifies some of their cockamamie decisions.

Not even close, but nice try. I'll help.

It would be like you knowing about WebMD but also acknowledging that doctors have access to more data and information than the general public does.

Please note that I make no value judgement on the quality of data and information available publicly nor the proprietary data and information that teams have. I just choose to accept that they do have proprietary data and information.

I also believe we landed on the moon.

Call me crazy.

What they have that makes them better, has been specified to you many times. No team heavily uses them, but even if a team uses analytics as part of the puzzle, it is significant. You label their decisions as cockamamie based on what? Results? I'd really like to see some of the experts on hockeybuzz put into a position of making decisions they have to make, and see how it turns out.

I literally cant think of a single metric that is in favor of VDV...Unless doing nothing is one of these fancy metrics.

Medical books in the wrong hands can lead to problems. Remember that Brady Bunch episode where Peter thought he had an awful disease because the pages of the medical book he read had two pages stuck together?

Also, there's no franking way you knew I'd say that. lol
