Baerschi was a good trade, Vey was definitely to appease WD. Prob how we got him in the first place was to tell him we will try and trade for a couple guys he wants. Perfectly explains Vey and Dorsett really. - Retinalz
If Benning had to promise WD he would bring in some of his pets to get him to coach, this mgmt group is in worse shape than a I thought ..... |

Yeah but it would be Washington's 2nd, 62nd OA at this time. - A_SteamingLombardi
It's another shot to get a good young player, that's what matters. Those guys take three to five years to develop but if you hit with it, it may only take two. |

Nobody seems to want to say what a trade return should look like when asked to offer up suggestions. Other than saying trade this guy or that positional player... so how about this, trying to keep cap etc. In mind
To Montreal: Luca Sbisa
To Canucks: David Desharnais + Mtl 2nd 2017
Montreal gets a #4/5 defenseman with another year and fairly young.
Canucks get an expiring contract plus another magical 2nd round choice.
Montreal would be taking on additional $100k, in this transaction.
Vancouver doesn't have worry about losing a decent defenseman to expansion.
Fair trade? - Reubenkincade
If no other trade for shedding one of the older d-men is out there, it's not bad. I'd be looking to deal Tanev/Edler first myself. We might be able to flip Deharnais before the deadline is done as a rental.
Sbisa is decent, in fact he looks to just be finding his game. I'd be pretty interested in hanging on to him if I were JB. At 400 NHL games and 20-21 minutes of icetime per night, he's looking like one of the better options to play top-4 (more minutes) the next couple years. While these other guys (Tree/Stecher/Juolevi) need to get their fitness levels up to NHL level, ideally you don't rush them into those spots/minutes (we made this mistake with Hutton, hopefully he gets his swagger back).

Wasn't he considered the best coach available on 2015? Quite a few teams wanted him, sometimes you make offers to woo a coach. Look at Toronto giving Babcock 8mil a year and letting him have a say in roster changes/trades etc. It is actually pretty normal to promise things to coaches. |

Maybe at some point he was but Trotz, Maurice and Laviolette all went to new teams that year along with Johnson and Peters who were viewed as up and comers as well.

Sure I have been a Sbisa fan since I watched a couple Flyers game a few years back, he was a rookie I think.
Edler will not waive & don't think Benning wants to move Tanev, but if they could moving one of them would get us a decent return if a team could fit them in cap wise. |

Ya I hear ya. Something tells me JB's tune in terms of asking guys to waive may change in the offseason prior to the expansion. MAybe it's just wishful thinking on my part |

If he makes moves prior to expansion draft it will be to protect exposed players. It won't be to gain picks. Now prior to or at entry draft maybe he makes something happen. But Edler isn't going anywhere. Two reasons. Contract and no No.1 D to take his place. Only candidates are OJ and Tree who are years away. |

* Clubs will have two options for players they wish to protect in the Expansion Draft:
a) Seven forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender
b) Eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender

I think we should be able to get more for Sbisa. Polak got 2 2nd round picks last year or the year before that didn't he? |

MTL would probably want to keep DD and his expiring contract. Taking on Sbisa and his contract to essentially be a 6th/7th/8th D man makes no sense. Losing 3.5 million off your cap next season, a 2nd round pick, just for a depth D-man? |

I bet the Canucks are not the only team in sports that's looking to draw inspiration from the New England Patriots' stunning comeback win in Sunday's Super Bowl.
Unfortunately, 2 Sedins don't equal 1 Brady. |

I think you might be confusing what "irony" and "points" are. For example, you've made points, but not anything backed up by reason which makes them opinions. Which is kind of like bashing your head onto your desk, in terms of quality of argument (see, that's irony). |

WHATS UP WITH CANUCKS AND GAINING OFF SEASON WEIGHT!
Anyways....
Just a continuation about our conversation about trading Burrows and if there is a Market for him. I certainly think there is. Burrows is not a player you want during the regular season... you want that time to go to developing younger players and using Burrows as a mentor. But in the playoffs, you want grit, agitation, dare I say Truculence and a guy willing to bite off a finger. The playoffs is not the place you want your developing guys to have more experiments.
Thats why I think an Eastern Team, someone would would have to play the Rangers, Boston or Philly, would love Burrows. His contract is expiring... he is a pure rental and could be sat if not needed.
Looks like a good fit in Montreal, Columbus or Washington. |
