If GMJR can get Daley for Scuds, I figure he can get something solid and helpful for MAF. The cap space is the most important part to me and being able to protect MM. Anything else is just a bonus. |

Protecting MM isn't an issue. A buyout is the worst case scenario. 1.9 is the figure for the next 4 years if they need to go that route.
Don't be surprised if and when we trade MAF, we eat a chunk of salary. Better to eat 2 mil of salary over 2 years than over 4. Either that or we take back a player we'd rather not have......like another goalie. Dallas anyone? |

Not sure though, if they buy him out, they don't have a goalie to expose. So that could be an issue too. |

If we eat 2 on fleury we should get a 1st back. Fleury at 5.75 is a trade impediment. Fleury at 3.75 is one of the cheapest goalies in the league. |

Here's what I don't get...
1) Fehr finally moves back to center and excels.
2) Fehr is pretty bad on the wing.
3) Cullen has proven more effective at wing than Fehr.
Why not move Fehr to center on that line? Cullen-Fehr-Kuhnhackl

Rentals usually have very high trade value. They essentially allow a team to add cap that they couldn't in the offseason since its prorated and the team trading the rental can usually afford to retain.
Here is how I'd list trade value:
1. Cost controlled at good rate - I'd put Taylor Hall in this category, but he didn't bring much back, but typically these are the best assets.
2. Rental
3. Fairly paid asset - Fleury. Kessel was sort of in this camp until they retained. - sditulli
Are you basing the above on a contending team or non contending team? A playoff bound team or non playoff?
If you use Shatts for example as some have, I doubt the Rags trade for him even though they need him badly - it's too risky & why trade & use assets when he can be a free asset after the season? But they did trade (cost them), for Yandle as he had term. Do you think they throw assets at a pure rental?
You could also look at the Hawks & their LW need. Will they go rental again or try & solidify the position by trading for a player with term? My guess they want a guy with term & will let go of $ after season (is there any of their players needing ltir at the moment - just till round 1 ). If their need was in goal which player would best suit their need - Bishop or Flower?
So each player has to be taken individually, & the Flower comparison to Bishop stops at their position in my opinion unless a contract can be negotiated (Bishop) before the trade. Teams that want a goalie with term will want Flower - a known commodity, not Bishop who they will definitely have for a few months then ???????. A contender needing temp relief to sort out their goalie later will want Bishop & possibly even Flower depending on their cap position, team, direction they want to take etc etc.
So completely different scenarios in play for 2 different players. |

You better check Eks rumour chart just to see how close a Flower trade is. It all depends on that %! Under 80%, no, Flower plays 1 of those games, over & it's all Muzzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

So Maatta doesn't score goals, block shots play physical or do any of those fun things, doesn't have good charts/graphs and we pay him 4 mill a year. Sounds a lot like every ones favorite x penguin to me. Maybe he should be a salary dump as well. |

I'm talking entire market/highest bidder. Look at Ladd and Saad trades. They returned almost the same amount. Chicago will target rentals this year. They don't have the assets to trade for someone good enough to contribute that has a salary they can fit into cap.
Bishop and fleury are different markets. One is a simple rental and the other is a long term play.

I think if shat gets traded as rental the return will be significant. He's one of the best rentals to hit the market in years. If I had to guess he brings back quality prospect plus a 1st plus another asset. I could argue he's as high of quality rental we've seen since hossa. |

I have to agree, I saw on some panel online that Darren Dreger said teams view him as a 2nd pairing D, some see him as a 3rd pairing. I'm like what (frank)ing hockey are you watching?! |

Maybe you should be a salary dump, could spend that $8 an hour they pay you on a whole family of Trumpfugees. And they know more about hockey. - Dcoms

I think he's the second best dmen on most good teams. So anchors second pairing. Assume most teams have a letang-dumo top pairing of a guy who gets some Norris consideration plus a quality guy. Then have a guy like shat om your second pair. We really don't have that guy.
I'd honestly guess if we shat it could likely costs us 1st sprong and a 2nd or a guy blueger or 2nd round pick to be the highest bidder. Also 1st round picks are devalued this year as everyone is saying weak draft class. I wouldn't do that deal but I could rationalize it. If our cup window was smaller I would do it but I think we have a 5 year window so going all-in isn't important to me. If the window was 2-3 years I would consider it.
Ladd brought back a first and quality young forward. I think shat is a far better rental than Ladd. Shat would completely change our second pairing. |

He's been good in the past at most of those things, has had horrible health luck and he's young so he deserves a chance, but yeah he is currently playing himself off the Pens. I'd say TDL next season if he still looks like a dud it would be time to move on. Would also help if we weren't tied to the current pairings. |

Can anyone explain to me why buffalo traded for kulikov? I didn't realize they only had one year of control. Seems like poor asset management.
That being said he's considered the number 2 dman on the market. I wouldn't be shocked if he brings them a 1st. |
