There are two players Leafs will not trade.
One is Marner.
The other one you can guess by yourself.
Marner will be Leafs' Datsyuk. - MaximusAurelius
Why not add Nylander to that list? Are teams allowed just two elite forwards? Three seemed to work well for Pittsburgh last year... |

Trade Willie now.
Please those that think Leafs shouldn't trade Nylander for Provorov (if that deal was on the table) come forward now so we can have a talk about this 3years from now. - MaximusAurelius
What you fail to mention is why Philly wants to trade a young d-man they drafted so high, so recently.
Also, I'm not sure I would do such a deal. Sorry, but I'm not a fan of Russian d-man.
Would you have traded Kadri for Kulikov as an example? |

I agree 100% with that.
Only trade him if you can get a good young toppairing d-man, so Leafs are stronger as a team.
But people only focus on the part of trading away Nylander, not the potential return. - MaximusAurelius
Why not see who’s available prior to the expansion draft and at what price. Perhaps a dman can be acquired without giving up nylander and instead, a package of quantity.
Or sign Shattenkirk and keep nylander.
And philly is not trading their best and only good 20 year-old dman to us. So yes, it’s easy to ignore a return not grounded in reality.

I'll gladly take the position here that three years from now, I'll still take Nylander over Provorov. |

Gotta keep Nylander and look elsewhere for getting dmen. Primarily draft and the odd FA (minus the JVR for "insert Anaheim defenseman" trade in the offseason)

Dumb question....was looking up Leaf rookie records to see how close Marner and Matthews are , and wondered why Peter Ihnačák's rookie mark for points stands up as the leaf rookie record over Borchevsky's rookie point total? - mykokes
My wild guess:
Borschevsky's played his first season as a Leaf as a 27 year old, so the NHL didn't consider him a rookie (after 1990, they said you had to be under the age of 26, after Makarov won the Calder Trophy).
So Borschevsky was never a rookie in the NHL, but bless his heart, I'll always love him for tipping that shot in. |

He's been our most consistent d-man this year. Yeah, I said it. - mykokes
I'd argue Marincin has been the most consistent d-man this year. Absolutely brutal night in and night out. |

Well babcock is saying he still sees Nylander as a centre. If so, he'll be more of a backstrom. |

How so. Although I think Backstrom is awesome. I get the guy every year in hockey pools. I see a lot of Kessel in Nylander (or vice versa) |

Let's hope our franchise can follow the blackcocks motto
toews-matty
kane-marner
hossa-willie(without the defense hossa gives)
keith-Reilly
crawford-anderson
with mix matching inbetween players. Core though. lets hope they can pull this off in a couple years and keep developing!!

Nylander carries the puck better than Kessel in my opinion, and isn't as reliant on his shot. |

I'd have Willie as Sharp. Meaning we need a Seabrook and Hossa and the rest will hopefully fall in to place |
