The characters are awesome and make the show, and there's plenty of dangling threads and story still. I think it would be even worse and more uninspired to treat it as an anthology series with new characters and a new setting and just recycling a formula. I am excited to see where the show goes from here.

the ending was legit the best part of season 1. perfect mix of ambiguity, heroism and even sadness (11 being stuck in the nether, but still bonded with the cop)... while avoiding the usual tropes (i.e. nerdy guy not ending up with the girl).


season 2 will be sappy as hell
im beyond done with the dungeons and dragons kids.


should've stuck with the retro theme/music/setting but made it an anthology series like Fargo

Anthology shows work best with detached characters or stories...Fargo, as you said. Or American Horror Story or those types. Just because it's a retro feel doesn't mean it has to be an anthology. When you spend an entire season bonding and growing attached to a group of characters that strike a chord with the viewer, trying to do the same thing again is not only hard but foolish. It would be trying to rehash a formula to probable worse results. Plus not really anyone wants that. People have made an emotional attachment to Stranger Things. It's not the type of show to just take that away from people. Maybe you didn't but hey.

They left enough dangling stuff to easily foresee the plot and characters moving forward to me. And the setting itself still has many many unanswered questions. Without getting stale or too easy narratively. I trust the Duffer Brothers to not let it (they've earned that trust). Of course we know some notes will be hit (11's return). Like we knew from the get go Will's mom would go into the Upside Down and find him.
