Babcock apparently. But Leaf haters of all stripes including some in the media think they know better. |

Lou has reached yelling at a cloud age. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a beard was a non starter for him. How long is he under contract for anyway? - BlueBallz
Thornton is a UFA this year. Same with Marleau, Iginla, Marleau, Doan, Jagr
All players the leafs should consider on a short term contract. It would be nice to have some veteran leadership from some good players |

crazy game yesterday.
i thought Nylander was going to have a good game - still think Leafs would be better off trading him.
Martin - did he have the flu? Or what was going on there?
He somehow looked off already at start of the fight.
Hope he'll be ok - could be a career-changing moment (unfortunately negatively in this case).
Tomorrow one of the biggest games of the season vs NYI who are making a run to get into playoffs.. |

exactly.
you notice how andersen's numbers drop coming out of breaks?
beginning of the season, coming off an injury... leafs team defense was sloppy... andersen's numbers suffer
after the christmas break... team is sloppy defensively... his numbers suffer yet again
after the week layoff... team once again sloppy defensively... andersen's numbers suffer
coming out of the all star weekend break... leafs d once again sloppy... andersen's numbers suffer
once this young team finds their stride again andersen's numbers will improve... this isnt unusual for a young team... once they find their defensive game as a team again his numbers will shoot back up, i am not worried - Dozzer
I think the silver lining is that he is not the only goalie struggling. Some big names are having a tough time.
This is the dog days I guess

I wont say never trade Nylander but he is on pace for like 50+ points as a rookie and everyone acknowledges that he has the skillset so... you aren't trading him unless the return is very high.

He's already reached NHL super star level looks of indifference. Once he steps up his hollow platitudes and clichés we will know he's ready to take it to another level. - BlueBallz

I agree.
But that's an obvious condition.
I keep on saying that Nylander is a very good player.
But something has to give if you want to improve via trade - Marner and Matthews are the only untreadeables on this team.

It's the old Barry Sanders touchdown celebration. Act like you've been there before, and will be back there many more time

JVR is a great player. They should be able to get a pretty good return on him. Throw in a 2nd and add a prospect. No need to trade Nylander. Keep our picks. Develop. No short cuts with the young highly talented players involved. |

I'm hoping for Shattenkirk long term
And one of Thornton, Jagr, Marleau for a short term deal.
I know the second one is a bit of a pipe dream but the leafs will have a boat load of cap space for the next 2 years so giving one of these guys a 2 year deal(minus Jagr he gets a 1 year) that would be ideal - Santo_44
I dunno, how many free agent signings work out? Shattenkirk is not a great 5 v 5 Dman. I dunno if he will be worth his next contract.

agreed. I think they need to stay the course on free agents also. They are not one marquis player away from serious contention. Let's see what we have in the system over the next 2 years or so.
The timing of JVR's next deal may price him out of his value to the team compared to a Dman they could maybe get for him.
They have had to make this decision on players before, chose to re-sign them at market price, and very quickly regretted the decision after. Most recently, Phaneuf, and they were lucky to get out from under that contract. |

There are some that don't and some that do.
No team builds through free agency but teams that win sign secondary pieces. |

We'll see what Alzner comes in at. Shattenkirk will be priced much higher than a secondary piece.
