Well according to some the Leafs were collapsing after a 3 game losing streak
So yeah, leafs fans are pretty dumb sometimes - Santo_44
after watching year after year of collapses its hard to blame the fans... this fan base has a terribly fragile ego... coupled with the fact that there are obvious media trolls who jump all over the leafs at any chance they can get which does nothing more than stoke the panic fire |

well they were technically only 3 points up on last in the division before winning last night. a 3 game streak either way does make a huge difference in the standings. with the leafs being the leafs it's pretty hard to blame anyone for panicking. - daeth
Going through a 3 game losing streak is going to happen. This season, next season, the season after that.
Every team goes through them each season. Teams go through rough patches.
(frank) even the Capitals went through a 3 game losing streak this season already. It's unavoidable. All that matters is how a team reacts to it.
I don't care what the leafs have done in the past decade panicking after a 3 game losing streak is just silly. And talking about a collapse after one is just plain dumb |

One guy was even talking about falling to Lilagren
Those kind of people are just as bad as the people who say they will win the cup this year - Santo_44
You know? It's a very different team. I understand completely why Leafs fans have PTSD, but it's different now. |

This is literally a different team. Aside from Bozak, Gardiner and Rielly every other player is different. They are going to create their own reputations and to compare them to Leafs teams in the past is silly. |

How about about that Nylander eh? That was a beauty hat trick too, all three of those goals were very chocolatey. |

exactly.
you notice how andersen's numbers drop coming out of breaks?
beginning of the season, coming off an injury... leafs team defense was sloppy... andersen's numbers suffer
after the christmas break... team is sloppy defensively... his numbers suffer yet again
after the week layoff... team once again sloppy defensively... andersen's numbers suffer
coming out of the all star weekend break... leafs d once again sloppy... andersen's numbers suffer
once this young team finds their stride again andersen's numbers will improve... this isnt unusual for a young team... once they find their defensive game as a team again his numbers will shoot back up, i am not worried - Dozzer
What if it's vice-versa and the Leafs defense looks even worse cause of all those sucky 5 hole and short side thingamabobs Andersen is letting past him?
Huh...ever thught of that?

(frank) getting that win in regulation was big. Especially with the spectre of the epic collapse against Boston and the Leafs' blown leads this year, that's a good boost for them to have found a way to get the result despite adversity. Boston was so close to burning one of the Leafs' games in hand. Now it's still advantage Leafs in that playoff race. Hugely significant win. - Zezel

The media dosnt help I'll give you that.
If you want to call the radio the media(1050 TSN and 590 Sportsnet) they both were actually defending the team and saying that people needed to relax because it's just a 3 game losing streak.
Not all media is out to get them |

What's really amazing is that nobody would have complained before the season started if you told them the Leafs would make it to February before dropping 3 straight in regulation. |

Way, way more skilled and deep team. And even the players that remain from previous teams are better than they were back then. Kadri, JVR, the guys you mentioned. The coaching, special teams, goaltending, possession stats, it's all different and better. |

Was it me....or did Matthews look pissed after Nylanders 3rd goal...he was calling for the pass....Willie shoots and scores....Auston barely acknowledges. |

He should fetch the best middle pair D man available after that performance. With some minor adds by the Leafs of course. |

The Leafs have recently been losing worse than they have been all year. Being only 3 points up on last in the division combined with that is going to make people concerned. They weren't being "plain dumb". With how close teams are now it doesn't take much to drop in or out of the picture.
While I think they are still in a good position to make the playoffs I'd be lying if I said I wasn't now strongly considering (lol) that they might not be a playoff team this year. If the rookies start running out of gas or Andersen stops playing like Roy it can and will probably get ugly. That's a real possibility. We have 32 games to find out. It's safe to say probably non of us thought they'd be doing this well anyway so even if they do miss the playoffs it'll still have been a success imo. |
