Well....let me rephrase that. Some who seem like they don't want lose with a purpose, any better? This notion, from a management perspective, of trying for the playoffs is ludicrous.

In normal situations it is .

This is the Canucks though . It is the team that had a very difficult time saying bye to Eddie Lack Mason Raymond and now Miller and Burrows.

This is not a normal team

We've picked in the first round 4 times in the last 3 seasons. Patience.

But, they traded one of them away and it's come to light that one is going to be a project. The book is out on the other two, but looking pretty nice with some proper development.

Intentional tanking for sure is unnecessary. The teams poor quality will drag itself down into lotto country very soon. Still a bottom 5 team in the league. Played there hearts out , we'll beyond expectation, but the overall lack of talent, increased intensity from the competition chasing there own playoff dreams and a schedule that frankly has propped them up for the last 6 weeks will ultimately return the pretenders to there rightful position... still bottom five. Now granted there is no McDavid so to speak in this class.. . But there are plenty of good players and the simple math remains , the more often you pick high in every round of the draft...ie 5 th overall is 5th in every round, then the overall quality of every pick is an improvement in itself

Let's not sum up odds as reasons to be bad. A draft is fact specific. Just like 1OA Fail for Nail was a waste of development time.

The experts are saying it's a relatively close pool of talent up to 20. No real drop off past top 3 other then the other guys need more time to be NHL ready.

I don't think another coach, Hitch or someone else, is going to get drastically different results. Like his decisions or not, Willie has exceeded expectations this year with this group. Any shortfalls, are more personnel issues than coaching issues.

Our young players seem to be the biggest reason there is play off talk. Maybe we should trade Horvat, Tryamkin, Stetcher, Bart, Granlund so we can lose with purpose.

I agree they don't have those players, which is also part of my gripe. This team is hesitant to draft or acquire offense first players for the most part.

That's how drafting works...it's not a slam dunk, 100% guarantee (unless you're picking 1st OA...and even then...Yakapov), it's a risk.

Booner, I'm the epitome of patience, I just want to continue to build through the draft, which some seem opposed to.

Interesting theory as 90% of the posters talk about the draft/ our prospects in every thread

I'm not emotionally attached to WD myself. If they improved behind the bench, I'd welcome it. I just don't want a coach that has lost his players as many times as Hitchcock.
- boonerbuck

You're being hard on Hitch. He's a Team Canada staple. He's coached in every situation possible. Won at multiple levels, etc., etc. You know his credentials. He's going to be a HHoF coach.

He's fat, which make him uncomfortable, which makes him cranky. He's misunderstood by some players.

He's a hardass, but he gets results.
i'd be happy to have him as a my coach, but i don't think this team makeup would work well with him and his style...plus someone noted that he plans to retire after this year anyways..

I dunno. He was well liked by the players, but we held on to that core for too long trying to win.
If we had moved out/in players regularly in an effort to keep improving (including so called core players) then perhaps things would have played out differently.

I think the team was stale more than the coach.

Do you realize this is a business? The owners need to make $ and I don't pay to see the team get blown out. How can't you understand this?

Of course, I'm only really disappointed in the Virtanen pick but I've already said many times it's way too early to give up on him. And for the record he was my pick too, even I make mistakes sometimes.

He opened up their style as the the team got more talented but he still reverted to his defensive ways when winning or in tight games.
- belcherbd

I think that's a result of job security instead of system style or deployment.

Oh stick it in your ear, winning comes from losing in pro sports, build through the draft and they'll be that much better off in the long run.

You need to be a forward thinker and stop living in the moment to understand that though. Short term pain for long term gain.

right. it's a long and uncertain road to 'draft and develop'.

We can all say be patient in the off season, but during the up and downs of a season, it's harder to remember the plan.

I think thats the signs of any good coach. Trotz in Nashville was the most defensive coach, working with small budget and lack of skilled players. Then he moved to Washington, they are still clicking above Boudreau's rate during his last couple seasons
