I know, but I've been waiting a while for a good opportunity to call Vantel Trump....now that I have I wish I had chosen a better opportunity.
- belcherbd

The only thing that Trump and I have in common is our passion for Golden Showers by Blonde Busty Russian women in a presidential manner and our desire to hit it with Ivanka .

No, I'm not either. Just threw it out there.

But I do think a more senior coach with a bit more clout would be better for this team considering the competency of the owner, prez, gm, captain, etc.

Clout? Wtf does that mean or good for what?

I did play team sports, as I said I'm proud of my accomplishments. Felt ashamed if I had a bad game and let the guys down. No doubt about it. I love watching to capture a bit of that 'do it for eachother' feeling you get from playing in tourneys and stuff. I don't feel ashamed when other people don't accomplish something, that's just odd to me.

I'm just saying: what you're talking about is different. I didn't say don't try, I said trade older players with value and stockpile picks/prospects. You can try and lose, but you tried. I went into tourny's on bad teams and got smoked. I've also done the opposite. Still tried.

Disgrace blah blah blah. Buffalo, Edmonton and Toronto are going to be in the playoffs for the next 10 years. Starting next year (Edmonton and Toronto might both make it this year). Book it. Think they are ashamed of that? of tanking? Think Chicago is ashamed of tanking for Kane? The Pens for Crosby/Malkin? Edmonton for McDavid? Your thinking small potatoes, I'm think whole enchilada.

Those teams aren't ashamed of poop.

- neem55

No, but they also (with the exception of Buffalo), have all won Cups at some point in their history. They also have had a lot of success before they ended up being at the point where they decided to tank. We as a franchise do not have that, nor do we have a fanbase that is willing to fill Rogers Arena when the team is playing badly. Pulling that sort of sell-off to try and win the lotto is going to turn off a lot of the casual fans that end up buying most of the tickets and merchandise. Do you think Aquilini is going to continue to keep the team as cap team if his revenues go down significantly because management is selling off older assets and trying to sell a tear-down style rebuild?

Let's also consider that of the players that have had their jerseys retired by the organization, only (1) is a HHOFer and only played for a few seasons with the team before leaving because of contract issues.

This has nothing to do with the coach. None at all. They have gone through 3 of them now and the culture around the team is exactly the same because of the core. The "country club" is the culture, it is stale and needs to be energized

- WhiteLie

Who's they? This isn't the same team. What's stale? That's an old quote. Seriously what specific actions or innactions make this a country club. Reflections of how passion is displayed doesn't qualify.

What part of young enthusiastic is missing from Stecher, Tree, Hutton, Guddy, Sven, Granlund, Bo, And I'll throw cool demeanor Guance and Sutty in their too.

Like Burr is making up story that vets like him are not effected by this energy?

I brought up deployments as how things may not seem up tempo enough. That's not on the players.

I dunno. He was well liked by the players, but we held on to that core for too long trying to win.
If we had moved out/in players regularly in an effort to keep improving (including so called core players) then perhaps things would have played out differently.

I think the team was stale more than the coach.

- dbot

Well said & its on MG then & why we r where we r at now.
Idc for those ppl who say this or that about TL or JB when they inherited an old team without much for prospects. Impatient ppl & tankers r best to be tuned out.

Regardless how the rest of the season plays out we need to see D make more strides. PL is gone next year no doubt. Tree is finding his comfort zone. 1 vet is either traded or lost to expansion. We look fine still.

Wow

We have one of the slowest teams in the league how the hell does the coach fix that.

Our top 6 has Burrows Sedins Eriksson .It takes them 6 minutes to boil a three minute egg.

The style of play was brought up in reference to Country Club and passion comments. If you play a reserved style it doesn't look exciting.

Besides what you brought up was Nucks top 9. Other then them the other players can skate well enough. LE is okay. Burr not bad. Sedins what they have always been. But that's not the point on that. It's the style of play. A tight checking conservative positional game plus how and who is used that reflects the tempo. It's safe and keeps the Nucks games close. So they can succeed or just as easily fall short playing this style.

Just curious....

The tankers here who is drafted past the top 2 that would make u happy?
The draftists I'd consider r the patient ppl so project the potential lineup.
Ppl such as myself r traders if we make statement deals eg Guddy was 1 move but I still see 1-2 big moves r needed along with drafting & developing. I also see the Sedins need to be split up & get more playmaking thru the top 3 lines. I also think the 4th is ok but it lacks offense & we still need to imorove it. The PP is my biggest focus since day 1 & like many ppl thinks changes r necessary. I want more blasts from the point & net front presence.

For those posters who believe that the Nucks right now are a Country Club team please state your reasons with facts. Any specifics as to what that label means to you and why you are applying it would help enlighten others.

My understanding of what Country Club means is: a team full of players who are coasting. Going through the motions. Are not accountable and holding back from applying themselves. A team disinterested in results or their own play and avoid paying the price of what it takes to win. Showing up and mailing in the games when they could do so much better. Having it easy and not working hard.

Edit: players or leadership that have some sort of entitlement and are preventing more deserving players from having a role. Leveraging their position with management that they will leave the team and their star status needed to sell tickets if they don't get what they want.

Though above I would say is on the HC.

Country club is doing things a certain way and unwilling to change it. Sedins always on same line, on pp1, Edler on pp1, etc etc etc.

Thats more of a byproduct of our lack of offense.
Lacking a sniper but LE & BO is worth a shot for 1PP.
I do agree though that Edlers time has gone for the PP.
His slow decision making & blocked shots irritate me to no end.

The difference between those fine young players you have listed is they are not the leaders of the team. They look up to the twins, Edler, and the "core" and do as those guys tell them to. I already said, soon enough this will be a team lead by Bo and Guddy and the culture will change. Vantel is right that we have to wait out the culture left by "Eagle", "Honeybadger", "Juice", etc.

Tempo has nothing to do with anything we are talking about. This has nothing to do with the performance of the team, and everything to do with the individuals on it. Its no different than discussing players that are "cancers" in the room, in this case there has been good influence in the room but it needs an update

i endorse this philosophy, although would like to be at a point where it's redundant.

Hey, should we acquire this player? Nah, we've got enough talent.

- dbot

And then when he doesn't perform to expectations, we can blame Benning and call him a stupid idiot over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

They are part of the new core these players but now I see you are pointing out leadership. So what makes the Sedins, Edler and Burr Country club and what direction are they giving to the rest to act Country Club?
