Ya for sure Stan should go about it the right way. As long as Crow is aware of his situation on the trading block, why not? Just remember, Antii Niemi was a Stanley Cup winning goaltender too. His save % is probably 0.80 since leaving Chicago. IMO, great teams make good goalies look great. Crow has had a great run in Chicago, but he is the most logical of the large cap hits to be moved to make room for Panarin's extension. Crawford + Kruger added to a young team like Winnipeg, Buffalo, ect instantly makes them close to a Playoff Contender.

There are no great teams in the NHL anymore, the owners and commissioner made sure dynasties became a thing of the past.

But how about great goalies making very average teams look good or better than they really are?

Montreal Canadiens found that out with Price gone last year. Before Pekka Rinne became mediocre, he carried the Predators for a long time and when he started to slip a bit the NHL shooters quickly started to expose his vulnerabilities. Do you think Ken Hitchcock is going to be sending Jake Allen a Christmas card in 2017? The Blues just aren't that bad a team but the players know know they can't win with that ball hockey goalie stiff playing, so they basically have given up.

Just me but In the playoffs I'd rather have a great goalie playing at the top of his game and sacrifice with an average position player or 2 who can be hidden with limited ice time and zone starts. Sort of like having your 25 game winner going in Game 7 even with a couple of .200 hitters in the lineup - I"ll take my chances.

Darling also fits with McD's marketing philosophy as well; you can't buy some of the publicity that Darling brought to the team last year.

I don't think that that sort of thing flies entirely under the radar, when shaping the culture of a club.

Yes, I know all about how winning tops everything, however all things being equal, if you get the same results, you go with the clean skins. Leastwise that is how I see how the team operates.

I've seen Darling stand on his head in the Playoffs vs Nashville and at times this season. He has a Top 10 Save % and GAA this season. I think he is the real deal, but you never know. Crawford got outplayed by Brian Elliot in Round 1 last year and Elliot cant stop a beach ball this year.....

Duchene is a pipe dream. Not going to happen. I'm sure hoping he goes to MTL. Seems that would make it less likely Shipachyev goes there this summer and increases the chances he lands in CHI. Also that mean no Duchene to Nashville who with him likely beat the Hawks in the playoff should they matchup.

Vanek should be the top target. Say what you want about his game or his effort. Maybe he is all about the money. That's great. Maybe he comes here and plays the best few months of hockey in his life to cash in on his one last big contract. Hawks won't be the ones paying it regardless. Plus his cap hit should allow them to make a secondary deal to give them the necessary depth to make a cup run.

Say a guy like Lauri Korpikoski. Having himself a nice season with Stars. Too bad we didn't just sign him for 1M in training camp but I digress.

Maybe there would need to be a bit of salary retained to get them both but I think it's doable if you get rid of Desjardins & Tootoo contracts.

Should be able to pull these deals off without having to include Forsling Schmaltz or DeBrincat.

Ideally you don't have to include TVR in a Vanek deal but if you do that's where I see the discussions re: AZ Dmen making sense. If you can pick up Schenn then losing TVR is no big deal.

I'd be fine subtracting say TVR Motte and a couple 2nd/3rd Rd. picks if it brought back Vanek, Korpikoski & Schenn

Panarin Anisimov Kane
Vanek Toews Hossa
Korpikoski Kruger Hartman
Kero Hinostroza Panik
Rasmussen

Keith Hjalmarsson
Kempny Seabrook
Campbell Schenn
Forsling

That squad would give anybody in the west a run for their money. [/img]

I think Darlings contract will be like Martin Jones or Griess about 3mil a year. I have no problem with him as the starter. He reminds me a lot of Ken Dryden.

BTW, add this name to the list:

Martin Hanzal. He is on the Hawks list as well. Sorta sounded late yesterday like he was rising up the list too. And yes, there is and has been a list.

He is way down the list of guys they might trade. The word I have heard from multiple people I trust: untouchable.

The real question is who gets which half of Toews? I'd say Buffalo could really use Toews's legs. That leaves Winnipeg with a Toews's excellent upper body. It's a win/win frankly.

I think Darling is a good goaltender and pretty sure the Hawks do too. So losing him as a UFA wouldn't be a good thing - need to either turn him into another asset or deal with moving Crawford.

I think Darling being from Lemont, IL COULD be a slight factor in him preferring to stay home in Chicago. I mean, who wouldn't want to be THE GUY for their hometown team?? Maybe if StanBo assures Scott that he plans to trade Crow and give Darling the net for next season, he will take a Long-Term deal at a Cap-Hit similar to Griess?? We can always hope LOL

A lot depends on family and friends. Everyone knows how much you make. I can name a few guys who were not better off playing in their hometowns for that reason.

I agree, that seems more in tune, and would check off some boxes, if he could stay healthy. He's still a young kid .
This Darling stuff, Marketing, He lives in Boston during the off season, yes spent some time in Lemont but Has zero Loyalty. He's going for the doe, correct me if I am wrong ,wasn't He born in Va.? So theHome town "laid" isn't gonna fly. I bet he gets dealt and hopefullyBowman gets a decent haul.
So Iguess if BrettHull had signed here, born in Addison,he'd be a hometown kid?
Get what I amtryin to say? Some reaching for straws here hopingDarling says," I like the commercials andthePR so Ithink I'll sign for 1.5 less. Don't think so and I doubt Corey agrees to any deal other the Montreal and that job is taken.

Duchene would be the dream add and the asking price is quite high. I'd rather swing for the fences then end up with Iggy...you'd love to see another defenseman as well so who knows how it plays out. So maybe a couple of smaller moves...Hawky mentions Hanzal...which was on JJ's list a bit back...

Darling vs. CC - you'd love to have them both but the cap isn't going to allow it.
Rainman and Al were discussing it a bit further back in the thread...it's time for a 10% luxury tax.

meanwhile there's a game this evening - at the Yotes...Hawks could certainly use a win this evening. Or will the funk continue?

>>>All that said, I am hearing that the trade market looks tougher for the Hawks this year because they don't have as much organizational depth to deal from, and their salary cap situation is so tight.<<<

this was the case 6, 4, 2 months ago...stanbow and the hawks have no space or trade pieces for a net positive addition at the trade deadline...i dont care what 19 wants...he aint getting it...

so do the hawks do one of their "play down to competition" type games and lose or eke out a pt or 2...why should that change...

lets look at the at that 1 line on a 1 line team since 2017 rolled in: 13 games

#15: 5 pts with 2 goals and none in the last 11 games with some bad pens throw in
#88: 10 pts with 4 goals with 3 goals in the last 11 games
#72: 6 pts with 2 goals none in the last 10 games; since signing his extension on 12/28 = 15 games with 7 pts and 2 goals

oh well

I know Hanzal wouldn't solve the top-6 LW issue, but if Kruger is part of a trade, Hanzal would be a good replacement for him. Can Hanzal shutdown the top centers in the league during the playoffs? He definitely has the size and defensive acumen.

Even if Kruger stays and we somehow get Hanzal, Kruger could be the shutdown center on the 4th line and Hanzal could center the 3rd line. You could flip-flop them, too, if match-ups dictate. Regardless, that would be good center depth with Toews, Anisimov, Kruger, and Hanzal.

Where would that leave Kero? Does he play wing? Rasmussen can play both wing and center.

Agreed power but do really think that if Kane was just an "above average" forward or even a where Crow is now, that McD wouldn't have tried to dump him during that summer of discontent?

He values the "Brand" over everything else. I'm guessing that even Rocky would have signed off on it. McD is as much of a control freak as my ex-wife.

Two problems with this. First, the money doesn't work. Second, it means Keith and Seabrook playing 30 mins per game.

Thanks for responding earlier, JJ. Glad to hear Hammer is not going anywhere. I just don't see it with Iginla, though. Great career, great guy, but what does he have left in the tank, and does he fulfill the team's needs?

None of these (frank)ing xbox trade experts ever take the money into account.

You all have to start seeing the money as equal to or greater value in trades .

Nobody wanted to trade a pile of trash and Pokka for Leddy but there is a salary cap

Nobody wanted to trade Saad but you know what cant afford 6 x 6m so turned Saad into a top 6 center and Dano (which turned into Ladd)

Nobody wanted to trade Big Buff but there is a salary cap

Wow , PD is finally having a nice season with the Habs 2011 1st rounder . Sure took long enough

Tallon sucks . He drafted Barkov over Seth Jones.
