There are a bunch of other moves that Stan has made - Frolik to me stands out as well as Oduya - that have impacted the club. But you've got to take the good with the bad. What was your favorite moment of the Marty Turco era? Stan has done well to add around the core built by Dale and a couple of others and its given the Hawks Two more Cups. Which is pure gold in these parts.

The last couple of offseasons(14, 15) have not been his finest work. The Leddy salary dump followed by the Sharp trade fiasco with the Stars stand out. And while some slag the reacquiring of Ladd I saw that as a good move. Ladd led the team in hits in the Blues series and had become part of a strong line with Kruger and Hossa. Where Stan blew it was not getting a #4 on the back end instead he was all in with Rundblad after the parade that spring. Instead he moved Danault for two vet forwards that ended up not being a factor.

I'm hopeful that Stan can pull off a deal for Duchene - for me that would be a masterstroke for him. Meanwhile its the Stars tonight. Sharp is playing quite well since returning from the concussion - 5 g 6 helpers in January.

And also the first day where all goaltenders have to wear the new streamlined pants. Could be a 10-9 OT game. Q and Lindy Ruff committed after the game to a mental institution.

Mornin' DK.

Agree with pretty much everything you said except on two points. Marty Turco was insurance in case Crawford wasn't ready and I think Stan only signed him for a year so it really wasn't a big loss.

If Turco recaptured some of his old form from his DAL days, great. He didn't but it really wasn't a horrible signing IMHO. If I were to name a favorite Marty moment it would be the one of him goofing on Pierre when McGuire was doing his between the benches analysis.

While Stan didn't get his dman last year, reports were he was trying to get Hamhuis who apparently wasn't interested in coming here.

Hey D hope you're well...bit under the weather on my end. Turco, Morrison...etc...there's good and bad with any GM. My point was Stan knew at the parade he needed a #4 and didn't get it done instead going after his pet Runny.

The Sharp fiasco certainly contributed as well. Had Stan moved him at the draft as he should have done with Leddy the year before the team would have been in better shape. Instead waiting on Sharp cost him and made him take back a lot of salary when he could have resigned Oduya. This one as you well know still eats at my craw a bit as I think we could have had a real shot to repeat if he'd only fixed the defense. I hated the Weise/Flash move at the time and hate it now. Danault is doing quite well for the Habs. I think it was interesting to see Q put Runny in there in game 7 against the Blues. Certainly sending a message.

But Stan seemed to finally learn his lesson this year and moved Shaw at the draft - which we all hated, but got picks back and now we have DeBrincat. We've heard what's being offered for Dutch and the Hawks seem to be right there. I'm hopeful he's going to get something/ maybe a couple things done here and then we'll see what happens come April.

Right now they need to keep banking points. Tough trip continues tonight.

Any consideration for Oduya, will be coming to the end of his current contract, would be eligible for a 35+ contract going forward? Coming off a 3.375 AAV contract, might go for a Campbell type of deal for next year? Downside is he's another Left D to our overage of lefties...

Campbell has made around $60 million in his career....He's more willing than most to play for a smaller check especially when he lives in Chicago year round.

Big, good college numbers. Beyond that, no not really.

But as far as the Hawks hyping him or even just privately being anxious to get him in, two words: Drew LeBlanc.

DBTH. Wait and see. You're right. He COULD defy the conventional wisdom re: jumping from college to the pros. But . . .

I would also watch what the Hawks do with Justin Kloos out of Minnesota. I heard recently they really like him.

Drew Leblanc = Matt Leblanc on the ice. Btw has the shine started to where off Jimmy Vesey yet. Hopefully Hayden does offer a little size with the abilityto be what Bickell should have been but Backes is a stretch. I do wish the Hawks still had Denault on the 3rd line. Moving him gained them nothing and I think him and Kruger would be a nice 3rd line pairing.

Going to be interesting if the Players Association publicly tells players not to sign with Chicago, like the NFLPA did with the Bears; or if it's kept under wraps. Probably wait to see if the legislation passes.

If it does have the intended effect on scoring, all the highest scorers of the big-pad era are going to want an asterisk by their totals.

The union is upset about players taking discounts to help cap strapped teams. They feel it drives down the free agent market for everyone else.

Illinois is looking to stop long term injury payments owed to professional athletes if injured on the job. Super reasonable legislation, honestly assumed it worked that way already everywhere for pro athletes. Apparently not. And NFLPA publicly saying avoid Bears... wonder what NHLPA will do.

Jake Ryczek is having a quite a stretch for the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Fresh off being named the United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Week after recording five assists in three wins last weekend, Ryczek may have one-upped himself Friday at Young Arena.

The Chicago Blackhawks' 2016 7th round NHL draft pick notched a goal and three assists as he helped Waterloo win its fourth straight, 7-4, over Tri-City.

Ryczek now has nine points in his last five games and ranks fourth in the USHL among defensemen in scoring with 26 points (six goals, 16 assists) in 32 games.

"He is playing really good," Black Hawks' head coach P.K. O'Handley said. "He is playing the right way. He is playing honest. He is confident and that is good. I think the best part for me is he is playing a lot better defensively."

Was listening on local sports radio the other day. It sounds like the same legislation is already in place in a number of other states.

The way I understood it, it had to do with wage differential and players would fall under that umbrella til the age of 35.

Essentially what it said is athletes would be insured against catostrophic injuries that ended their careers and the ability to earn a professional sports salary.

As an example, say you're an NFL player and at the age 26 you sustain a career ending injury. Eventually you start working again as an insurance adjustor or something similar. Under the new policy you would be paid til the age of 35 the difference between that position and what you likley would have made until the age of 35 as an NFL player.

Under the old rule the legislation would pay wage differential til the age of 67 which is ridiculous, since relatively speaking a small number of athletes continue to play profesionally into their late 30's and early 40's. There are more pplayers now that seem to reach that threshold but certainly none of them are playing professionally by age 60.

Just read what you posted and it's in the last paragraph.

"Nothing in the wage differential language under consideration impacts the right for any athlete to receive just compensation for partial or permanent injury, medical benefits or to file a claim itself."

The bill that passed was focused only on the aspect of wage differential. I'd be surprised if this effects the Bears or Hawks ability to sign FA's...for the Hawks the salary Cap will likley have a greater impact.

I'd argue the McCaskeys aren't necessarily cheap, they just pay the wrong people.

If you read in the Trib article, this is not something specific to Illiniis or even the McCaskeys.

Again it has to do with wage differrential, and I'm not sure why exactly Smith is so
upset.

The wage-differential laws were intended to apply to an employee whose work-related injury causes him to be prevented from "pursuing his usual and customary line of employment.'' Think fireman, carpenter, pipe fitter or welder. The wage-differential benefit compares the employee's wages before the injury with the wages after the injury, computing a benefit to be paid to the injured employee through age 67. However, no professional athlete anticipates being paid his player's compensation that late in his or her life.

While Smith threatened to sway free-agents away from Chicago if the bill passes, several states recognize the complex situation involving pro athletes and specifically exclude them from workers compensation benefits — including Florida, Texas and Missouri. As the teams' letter pointed out, only 13 states even offer wage differential benefits, with Michigan specifically restricting pro athletes from collecting them. Three states — Ohio, New York and Nebraska — cap the number of weeks any injured employee can collect wage differential benefits.

Ek reports that the Kings are offering Muzzin and a top prospect for Duchene and Beauchemein?

Hard to see the Kings parting with Jake Muzzin.

I know it is speculation and words can get contorted, but is that a better offer than what the Hawks are supposedly offering? Player, prospect(s), pick(s)?

Completely agree. Stan didn't seem to learn much from the Leddy experience and came up short in the Sharp deal. Woulda/coulda/shoulda says there must have been a scenario to move Sharp for cap space earlier in the summer and then resign Oduya. But he did move more quickly in dumping Bickell's salary last summer. I'm not sure how much TT would have helped this year; some, maybe, but he wasn't a good fit here.

I'm really curious about the deadline. I hope he gets Duchene or JVR, a legit LW that will be here next year too, and maybe a rental or two for the bottom six. Assuming Kruger goes. Wondering who goes in the summer. I'm guessing it'll be Crawford.

I wouldn't mind this trade.

Too bad TB already signed Vasilinski to a new deal. So, I don't think they need Crow.

I do wonder if TB would still be interested in trading Drouin though.
