How is this clear? And if it is clear, it is a present day top 4 d-man, or future top 4 D. Cuz there is, ahem, an argument the Avs are at least a couple of years away.

Listen, it MAY WELL BE Sakic is dead set on acquiring a top 4 defenseman for Duchene. I get it. I just haven't heard it form anyone that makes me say: yes, that guy knows. I don't care what Adrian Dater says a month before the trade deadline.

But . . . it also is even more likely, the Hawks will be outbid.

But if Marcus Kruger, Gustav Forsling, Alex deBrincat and a 2018 first round pick are "a bag of doorknobs," then by all means, trade the entirety of the talent pipeline to win the Cup this year. T

Because this team (by your logic) is doomed if it holds on to those "doorknobs" with such horrible scouts who can't make first round picks.

DOOOOOOOOMED.

- John Jaeckel

That's a pretty good deal for both sides, more Avs, but a solid deal. And it sounds more than what is being speculated in the hockey media.

Got a feeling the Swedish connection here with Kruger, Forsling, and Landeskog may be more than a "whisper."

You're interpreting tone over an internet text board and getting angry about it. I don't see how calling you "Ace" is condescending.

JJ I just joined up. Curious if you read other bloggers posts. Reason being I happened to read the Pittsburgh guys cry fest over malkin being left out of the top 100. I get the frustration he does deserve to be on it but why center toews out and bash him like that? just curious on your thoughts and if you thought about defending tazer. Is Ryan Wilson just a Hawk/Toews hater? Canada hater? Just seems really angry.

it is paired right after his previous message of dismissing my post beforehand telling me when I am having a drink with Sakic to say "hi" to him for JJ

again, its not hard to string together the condescending tone

I wish someone would tell me to have a drink with Joe Sakic. I think it would be pretty cool. And there is nothing wrong with being called Ace. I mean Ace Frehely is pretty damn cool, also.

I actually helped him go from being a poster here to a regular blogger, something he seems to have forgotten along the way, but I will take no responsibility beyond that.

His opinions are his own. Some of which I agree with.

That's what I was told, but honestly . . . and I mean this . . . I think it would be a master stroke if SB got Duchene, and not real high in terms of likelihood, but you never know.

Seems most here are interested in taring and feathering the D corps for their play, but I see something different. While Seabs & Campbell may be past their prime, and Keith may still be hampered by a knee issue, this is a pretty solid D group. Let's not forget some of the flotsam and jetsam the Blackhawks ran out on D during the 3 SC runs:

2010: Jordan Hendry, Brent Sopel, Nick Boynton
2013: Sheldon Brookbank, Ryan Stanton
2015: Rosival, Rundblad & Timonen

The issue is the lack of experienced depth among the 12 forwards. The Stanley Cup teams, especially the 2010 & 2013 teams, back checked like hungry dogs & made quick exits from the defensive zone with outstanding tape to tape passes. Of course, it was because, as a whole, the forwards were young, fast and hungry. The current forward group, not so much. Way too many times each night, the D moves the puck up, only to find the forward miss/fumble the pass, run into an opposing fore-checker, turn the puck over to avoid a hit, etc. Panik, for one, is a disaster in his own zone. Don't forget the 3 rookies got torched in SJ the other night on the winning goal.

Q admitted as much last night. The 3 forwards he sent out for the last 1:01? Toews, Hossa & Krueger, who sealed the deal. If the forwards get more engaged on the defensive side of the puck, the D will look much better. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet this season, at least on a regular basis. You see it from time to time, like last night when they held the Coyotes to 5-6 SOG in the 1st. But it doesn't happen for 60.

Larsson was always regarded as a 2/3 dman at the time and yes EDM had to overpay to get one because their need was so great.

There is a big stretch to compare someone like Larsson was playing very well top pair minutes in NJD at the time and improving while being a former top 5 overall pick vs Forsling who isnt even an every day player and hasnt shown much outside of having some nice raw skill

- hawkeytalkman

Oh, absolutely. By no means was I equating the two. I wasn't talking about Forsling per se. My point was that you have to take into account how certain teams/FO's view other players around the league. For example, I would assume that teams like CBJ or STL would have less interest in a player the style of Forsling than COL, or even Pitt, just from a team fit perspective.

I think Joe Sakic has been drinking since 10am this morning. I mean, realistically, the Ryan O'Reilly trade has been a colossal disaster for him. He took a Division Winning team in 2014 and turned them into the worst team in the league over the last 27 years. How long is Sakic's leash??

There was a lot of bad blood between ROR and Colorado over the years. ROR kept wanting to get paid, was holding out, and it really rubbed COL the wrong way. It was well known that he planned on sticking it to them on the upcoming RFA ask and they seemed ready and willing to move on from him before it got there. He was pissed they didnt want to pay him, they were pissed he held out for so long and nearly traded him during the holdout

That looked like a mutual separation, it would have been toxic to keep him in the organization

This part drives me batty every time I watch. Schmaltz got sent down and since he's been called back up, he is much better defensively and on the puck. What the heck has to be done or said to the rest of the team in order to get that message through? How may post game interviews have we all seen through the recent years where they say that good defense leads to offense.... Yeah...it does! so please do that thing you just said works so well.

Sorry I'm getting a bit rant-y.

definitely agree

there are "fit" trades like you mentioned, but it really seems as opposed to fit, Sakic is trying to gun the highest regarded dman possible on the market under a certain age, regardless of fit.

Whether is an OEL pmd type or a stalwart shutdown dman

Also Zadorov is looking like he will be a legit d-man.

JJ, hope all is well!

Duchene coming to hawks may be a tough move, but after watching 60 minutes of Toews' line I think we give up what they want. My question is, who are they wanting from our roster other than Forsling that gets it done? Is there a d-man we move from our current team that isnt 2 or 4? Would 7 be an option in this trade?
