Ever hear of a Marchand hat trick. A goal, some butchered English and a slew foot.

That sounds so Burrows, a goal, some butchered English and a hair pull. |

A pretty good Centre produced 15 g, 34 a, 49 pts, 82 games in age 21 season. Currently sits 5th in points this season. Mark Scheiffle.
Bo Horvat in age 21 season so far: 14g 18a 32 pts in 50 games, almost exactly the same pace as Scheiffle in age 21 season.
Way too early to tell Bo's ceiling.
Another good Centre in the mix is sorely needed but again so are wingers defense and another goalie. - Reubenkincade
I like the comparison. I was thinking he could trend in a similar way to start this season. Lets hope so |

it's even more ridiculous to look at that same player and think he's the 1c answer for a cup winning team.
2c may very well be his ceiling for a cup winning team.
maybe not. but if you're COUNTING on him for more than that you're setting yourself up for failure because he doesn't reasonably project to more than that. - prock
Ok, so BO will never be an elite/#1 centre and never lead us to the SC is what you're saying.
meanwhile...
its pretty much exactly the same thing going on the last few seasons in Nashville. You guys think Forsberg is gonna get you a cup? Even if you surround him will Neal and Johansson, and quite possible the best combined D in the league and an awesome goalie and you guys can't even get passed the 2nd round. |

must be the key to the leafs holding down a playoff spot. hopefully he doesn't get injured in team canada selection camp. maybe it's best the nhl doesn't play in the Olympics. - prock

I think the way the NHL is trending you need to have 3 legit centers. With fighting all but gone the 4th line needs to be that energy checking line and your top 3 lines all need to be able score more so now than ever before. With that being said if we can pull another Bo in this years draft and Guadette looking really good we might be closer than we think. - mauryballstein
just how close to being a contender do you think you are???
you realize the sedins are on about the 16th hole of their career right? Ryan miller as well?
put it this way. compare the Canucks roster to last year's pens. or this year's elite teams. remove guys retiring in the next two years (not gonna happen in that timeframe) and pick out what spots in the roster need upgrades.
I'm betting it's more than half of your top 6 and top 2 pairings. and starting goalie.

Im talking about years from now, you know building through the draft. Read the post if have the intellect to actually read. Who in the hell said this team was doing anything this year other than finishing bottom 10. |

already addressed. first, Nashville is looking to upgrade their centre. I guess they realize forsberg won't cut it.
second, I'm a leafs fan, and I have no issues with Austin matthews as number 1 centre going forward. yes I think he is of the caliber that can be number one centre on a cup winner. marner and nylander both also project into guys that can play second line on a top team, and kadri makes for a phenomenal 3rd line centre. hell he could play 2nd on a top team too.
the leafs have no issues at centre. or forward at all for that matter. the leafs have to shore up their defense. |

It's not as far off as people think. In reality, it's probably before, during or after the next ice age. |

I'm pretty sure I explained why. in the (frank)ing post you replied to. fairly thoroughly actually. with a comparable example. - prock
Guess I didn't find your explanation very interesting then.
Do you always de-value a players stats because his team plays poor defensively or a run and gun style because if so you probably don't think much of Erik Karlsson. Or for that matter going back in time there WAS a pretty good player on run and gun teams that is known as the greatest player of all time. |

I think you're right, Teams like Columbus, NYR, Minnesota and Montreal have all spread out the scoring and theres a ton of good players, playing well together. They're all very well constructed TEAMS.

could just be.
in reality it's after two or three much needed years at the bottom after the sedins retire or just plain can't do enough to keep the team out of the basement. then a few more years of developing the talent obtained. |
