I guarantee the usual group here will once again be quoted near TDL as saying "knowing Benning, he'll trade a 1st for a rental"... happens every year.

I think you are confusing regimes, as that was Gillis' go to.
It will likely be something along the lines of:
"Knowing Benning, he will fail to trade our UFA's......period"

Very Interesting:
" Golden Knights GM George McPhee will be permitted to execute trades and transactions ahead of the March 1 trade deadline, so long as owner Bill Foley satisfies the requirements to officially make Las Vegas as home of the NHL’s 31st franchise in the days prior".
" For instance, the Golden Knights may acquire a draft pick, prospect or future considerations from another NHL team in exchange for their agreement to not select a particular exposed player in June’s expansion draft".

I would like to see Hansen paired up with Bo. Burr can play with Sutter. Maybe next practice WD will give that a go? |

Future considerations smacks of collusion. Well brings the whole exposure of players new meaning. That still means they pick someone else on the team though. |

I wouldnt call it collusion, to me its saying "hey we are going to leave Hansen exposed but really we want to keep him. What would it cost to trade for him?" And then they negotiate and agree that Vegas taking Gaunce and a 2nd round pick is what it would cost Van to trade for him and they go ahead and skip that extra step and pass on the pick when Vegas takes Gaunce in the draft instead - as an example |

Sounds like a topic that will inflame many. In that scenario for Canucks to hold on to assets for playoff run they wind up sending to 2nd rounders to Vegas not to pick Hansen and Sbisa but take Guance for example.

I'm not confusing anything. I've laughed at people for that comment the two previous seasons... and expect to this season.

The only thing i find wary about this scenario is, what mechanisms are in place to ensure that Vegas stands by its word after acquiring such a pick.
March 1st, 2017.
McPhee: "Thanks for the 2nd Jim"
Benning: " Thanks for promising not to draft Sbisa"

Sure but realistically its better to have Vegas involved than to head into the expansion draft blind. I am sure every GM will be calling to see who on their roster interests them. If McFee says it costs a 2nd rounder and Gaunce to keep Hansen, then JB knows what price needs to be met to move him and make room.
Like neem said, in the past it has been low costs in the past. A lot of junk
San Jose traded Jan Caloun, a ninth-round pick (Martin Paroulek) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, and a conditional pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft to Columbus on June 11, 2000, after the Blue Jackets agreed not to select Evgeni Nabokov.
Buffalo traded Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre, Matt Davidson, and two fifth-round draft picks, one each in the 2000 (Tyler Kolarik) and 2001 (Andreas Jämtin) Entry Drafts, to Columbus on June 23, 2000, after the Blue Jackets agreed not to select Dominik Hasek or Martin Biron |

I think trade calls are like contracts, once registered with the league they are binding. They can always add conditions, like "VAN can still trade Sbisa if they prefer a different deal prior to the trade deadline" or if injury occurs the deal is voided or a replacement player is to be named, etc. but no way can they just get a free pick on a handshake promise |

If they sign one of your free agents then you don't lose anyone at the draft. You only lose one player to Vegas |

Sure, but there is no two-way exchange of assets.
Thus, what would the official league record show?
Vancouver trades 2nd to Vegas for the protection of Luca Sbisa?
Then it's binding? |
