I don't see his play being anything but maybe a good 3rd line center though. For a 5th rounder that's great. - manvanfan
That is his projection |

I had never seen him play before today, just highlights. He made some nice moves and made some smart players. Just don't seem to have the high end skill that most top 6 players have. |

I haven't heard of anyone projecting him higher . Same as when Gaunce was rojected as a fourth liner by Sutter.
Teams need third and fourth liners too, He wasn't a high pick |

Could be worse, Wsh picked Tom wilson 16th overall because size mattered. |

Possible diamonds in the rough...

I was bored this morning and going through prospect profiles on elite prospects this morning and I thought that Jesse Bjugstad and Pavel Koltygin would seem like draft steals if Van could get them in the 4th round or later. |

I dont think he's definitively off the list, I just think based on his career numbers (and not being designated the captain of 3 extremely good teams) he is less worthy. I think Kopitar is very similar, having won multiple cups, has a Selke, Lady Byng and better production on a lower scoring team, but I cant say he would be in the running for top 67 players of the last 50 years.
Just my opinion, but it is an interesting discussion for sure - WhiteLie
I guess that's where I'd disagree with you, because, I believe the game isn't simply about offensive numbers. Certainly a huge part of the game, but there's definitely more to it than that.
Bob Gainey is considered one of the greatest players ever and he only had 500 points. Toews is a great two-way center, you don't win a Conn Smythe and a Selke just cause. |
