That was painful to watch. Switched to Alone and saw more action in one episode than the entire game. |

Not trolling, honestly wondering: Were/are most Canucks fans expecting their team to fall out of the playoff race or was/is there genuine hope of holding onto a playoff spot this year?
I had just assumed collecting good draft picks was still the preferred approach, Benning's designs notwithstanding. |

If it doesn't, and we are still in the playoff race or get a wild card spot, I guess the team will have played well and deserve to be where they are.
Like many on here, I like watching games where they are in it and hopefully win.
That post all star schedule looks very daunting.
I was looking at the standings yesterday and the last place teams in the east all have around the same amount of points as the Canucks. Maybe the NHL should have a cross over like the CFL?
The idea of hoping the club falls apart is tough for me, but it is likely what's best for the future with the better draft position. |

That ought to do it.

We're in the mode where we'll take what we get. Management will be pushing for a playoff spot.
poopty because I wouldn't mind a High draft pick but im suspecting we'll get a pick from 7-16 |

a common thought in the summer was if everything went well, because the Sedins are still producing (folks can argue about it being first or second line production), the club could be a fringe/wild card team.
Benning has been pretty good drafting at whichever spot.
Hope wasn't going to make the team better or worse.

No, but it matters for fan expectations and therefore enjoyment. |

I can't answer for all Canuck fans but I'm expecting this team to fall out of the playoffs, and collecting draft picks is this fans preference. |

Here's another mock draft. They have Tolvanen at #3. I'd like that. It would push a good centre down...

I think everyone here expected them to be around the race until late February and that a little luck (aka health) had to be on their side to get them into the playoffs. We all knew we were better than the projected 65 points some outlets had, but some were hoping for the wheels to come off early and some thought wildcard was reasonable.
Benning filled the age gap from previous regime's poor drafting and we were all pretty pleased to hear he was done dealing picks, though we are hoping to acquire more.
All in all, I think we are where we expect and will drop to a top 10 pick as February comes around |

At this point, Benning has taken far more heat for his high draft picks, Virtanen and Juolevi, than he has for his lower-ranked choices. There's probably less pressure on him if he picks outside the top 10 this year—his best skill might be finding diamonds in the rough.
I don't think Canucks fans had high expectations coming into this season, but they were pretty indignant about the projections of last place overall and 65 total points.

so the 47% of fans with 3 teeth and no modern world job skills are ecstatic and hopeful that Momesso, Bure and Linden will be suiting up again, while the rest are looking 4 years out? got it. |

The biggest disappointment for me this year has been the entertainment value. We have seen a few decent games this year, but a lot of have been like last night. Knowing the team lacks talent, they are playing boring/safe hockey trying to squeeze out close games. I dont mind watching a losing season if they show energy and excitement |
