I chuckle every single time a shift simply ends when he gets the puck in the offensive zone. He either just makes a dumb decision to dump it to the corner 40 feet away or turns it over making a pass or trying to make a move.

Or he'll meekly sauce it on net from the blue line (love when it's near the boards too) a la Luke Schenn.

And on the forecheck, forget it. The guy loses the battle every. Single. Time.

VandeVelde, as a fact, is the weakest forward on the team. In multiple senses, but I just mean physically here. He might as well be 5'7" because that's how he plays. Never wins a battle, rarely hits, gets ridden off like he's a mite. I also see some saying he's a good skater. In a straight line he may have "average" speed, but when all you can do is skate in a straight line, you're not a good skater. Nick Schultz is not a good skater, but he can skate in a straight line OK. I mean, (frank), he's a professional hockey player and he has no idea how to do a cross over to build up speed and to create confusion with his feet and use the entire width of the ice.

And he's scoring tonight probably.
