Our position in the standings has been accomplished mostly without Hansen. Reward the players that get you to the dance, they will benefit most from participating in the playoff chase/experience IMO. I move Hansen for the best deal they can get on deadline day at noon, even if its below market value - WhiteLie
Yep...the time will be soon to start shipping the injury-prone guys out. Dorsett...Edler...Larsen...and even Tanev need to be on that list. What to do with Burrows...
My point was more along the lines that if this team is primarily relying upon the offensive production of a player like Sven, in the absence of the twins, without drafting a game-changer or two, then frankly, i don't think we will see the cup finals anytime soon.
We had the leagues best offense at the time of our run, with guys like the Twins and Kesler putting up points at a torrid pace and still came up short.
Sven is great, one of my favorites.
Do i think he has the ability to take over a series or two like the above listed players, no. He's a great complimentary piece to a line-up that has yet to really exist. - Whiskey-Tango
We are relying on these guys today. No one thinks Sven is going to win us a cup this season or any time soon. No one thinks we don't need to draft game changers. JB added a young scorer... a player that would be considered a success if we used a 2nd round pick and developed him... it is what it is. An opportunity. People want to continue to spin this as a negative... it's crazy. We still need players to play with Bo and Boeser.
You can't complain because a handful of players under 23 are keeping us out of the lottery...possibly. It makes no sense. You can't get everything you need in one or two drafts... players are going to be developing along the way... scoring goals, winning games.

I would be fine with that. The return won't be great but a 2nd rounder helps the rebuild and allows us to keep Granlund and Bae - CanuckDon
Thats how I would look at it, Hansen for a 2nd and Granlund. Long term for this franchise needs more young bodies that can score, a 2nd or even 3rd round pick can help in that regard
I look at it and wonder if a player is going to develop a certain way regardless of environment or if the environment and opportunity are determining factors?
Would Sven's development be where it is today if he was still in Calgary or would he be languishing in the AHL?
I'm a Sven fan. - hillbillydeluxe
Under Hartley Sven still be an ahler ..under GG top 6 ...Hartley made guys earn it and GG sticks with certain guys no matter what ..see chiasson ..
One thing I've noticed is that fans on here like to compare the trade and say the flames got fleeced ...I have not seen one flames fan say the chiasson for seilof was a fleecing ...most just want him gone
As for Sven he needed to be traded ...he needed to realize he wasn't as good as he thought ...and needed to make changes to his game

Nobody's saying that the two players are directly related to us getting a poor draft pick.
You take the twins off the roster and those two guys wouldn't see the light of day. The team as a whole is just good enough to push for a playoff spot but at some point over the next few years the canucks are going to have to find a star or two. The draft is the best way to do that.
Why not do it now or next season and start building around those very high draft picks?

I don't think anyone is.
Yes you can.
Regardless of the positive, progressive moves Benning has made (including Sven, Granlund etc), IF the Western Conference wasn't a total crap shoot this season, we would totally be in and around the very same position we were in last year.
IF the likes of NSH, DAL, WIN and L.A didn't have a slow start/took a step back, we are not a playoff team.
We are benefiting off the failures/short-comings of other teams, not the perceived success of our own!

If the Canucks get into the playoffs does WD get any love for the jack Adams ?

It's true, but at some point you do have to give credit. Miller is playing his best hockey in a Canucks sweater, the 2nd line has stepped up. I don't know if I agree with Winnipeg, something just aint right with that team. On paper, they should be a playoff team. Dallas has had injuries, Nashville just hasn't put it together yet with the new faces but I think will. LA hasnt had Quick, end of story.

Sven and Granlund have been put in a position to succeed and have done that here for the most part. Sometimes a change of scenery/systems can do that.
I wouldn't give up on Shink just yet. It's common knowledge that he needs top 6 minutes/linemates to succeed on any team and if Calgary squeezes him in at sometime there could be benefits.
But with scoring drying up a bit in Calgary lately probably wouldn't hurt to get Vey and Shink up for a look.
Why do people put themselves into this position? It's funny as hell, but why?

Pretty sure Carly has a better arm than Fifty cent.
Anyone else notice Marchand didnt get even a game........ I'd say I'm disappointed but player safety is pretty much a joke at this point. You can be a dirty, repeat offender as long as you're currently popular -.-

I've seen enough of Vey on the Canucks and the flames ...I would call up shink or janitor ....Vey is just another version of chiasson ...the play always dies on his stick
And anytime Vey is called up the flames board gets Vey Vey annoying

he hadn't proved enough. who knows how good he thinks he is?
Burkie sounded like he wanted to drive him to the airport.
I guess if folks want to say we fleeced the Flames, that is fine.
Vancouver Sven is better than Calgary Sven.
I can't say if Sven would have developed the same way, point production and opportunity, if he wasn't traded.
