My personal opinion is that the team defense and the number of grade A chances they give up, has a lot to do with where the goaltending is right now. I think more than any position in the sport, goaltending is mental. I think knowing that you have to be the savior and the last line of defense bailing out the team every night, wears on a player. It's a tough place to be, and tough to maintain that level of play. I agree completely with Bill that the two are symbiotic. When and if both improve, we'll see Mason in particular, back to where he needs to be.

Thanks for beating the drum I've been on for the last 2 weeks. The amount of high quality scoring chances this team is allowing is not good at all. 361 chances against versus 319 chances for. That's not a winning recipe often.

I think it was pulled too late. He should've been fired in April 2013, giving the Flyers a chance to look at every coach available that offseason.

I still feel like Lavy flat out panicked with the way he handled Bob in the playoffs that year.

Either way, their week kneed middle ground approach was the worst option. I wasn't wild about him as a coach, but I felt bad for Berube having that load dropped on him like that.

If I got to be drunk GM, the hardest decision would be choosing who gets punched in the face first

Dale Weise.

Sure, he made a mistake. It's always been weird to me that this one mistake had such humangous big ramifications, and that his tenure here was defined by it for some.

I just hope we don't see such an unbalanced reaction to one mistake again in the future.

His coaching style, to me, always had a bit of an expiration date. The goalie thing may have exacerbated it to a degree, but I never saw him as a long tenured Julien/Hitchcock/Quenville type of coach

As loads go, it wasn't such a bad one to get hit with.

The 13-14 team had a lot of good players on it. Giroux was an MVP candidate. Kimmo and Coburn were still a solid top pairing. Streit provided a lot of ES offense, and PP2 wasn't half bad. Mason was very solid. Even Vinny wasn't completely useless that one season.

The biggest weakness was that Rinaldo-Hall-Rosehill was a god awful 4th line.

But you might fix his hideous nose if you hit him hard enough.

Kind of a win win

That was the common understanding of him at the time. In the end it seemed like he was losing the room, so it wasn't a surprise he went. It's just the timing that irks me, a coaching change three games into the season is bush league.

That's fair. He did inherit a huge mess on the back end, despite the aforementioned doing what they could.

We are all pissed off at the product in the last 14 games. Funny thing is 10 games before that it was wine and roses. Welcome to the NHL.

It's certainly true that every team gets on the roller coaster in any season... even the best teams have slumps... but think about the 10-game winning streak: 4 were post-regulation, including 2 games where the opponent had 40+ SOG... two others were by one goal, including one (vs. EDM) where they needed a massive comeback in the 3rd period to win. The point being that they were hardly dominating teams during that stretch. Don't get me wrong, they were obviously playing better then, and there are no style points for wins - they all count the same (except for ROW tiebreaker). And so, I am not upset that they're having a slump... it's how they're reacting to the adversity that's really troubling... and as much as I hate to say it, that starts with G. Ok, sorry for rambling on like that... Let's Go Flyers! Turn this thing around.

Three viewpoints on this season:

1) It's a building block lots of good things shown in the 10 game win streak and the development/arrival of Provorov and Konecny.

2) Staying the course building for the future.

3) Season is a waste since they aren't taking a step forward from squeaking into the playoffs last season.

AKA Optimist, Realist, Pessimist.

This is my last straw.

I'm ditching this perennially awful team as a fan. I'm becoming a fan of a team that I can actually trust is on the right track to success......the Canucks.

Well look at the Detroit Lions a few years ago they were 0-16 this year they were a playoff team! It COULD happen.

When your main export is crippling depression and your economy is based on LeBron James, you don't get to win football games.

Detroit = Lions go 0-16 and the crash of the auto industry. Come on! I had a good option!

And isn't Flint's water so bad it could probably catch fire? Not like anywhere else can water burn.

A lot of late birth years and Russian imports?
Edit: Might not be a terrible idea to take a chance on Denis Smirnov. Sucks that Pavlychev was already drafted by Pittsburgh.
