From what I've seen of Weal, he's Akeson part 2. Not good enough to play a top 9 role at the NHL level and not suited for a 4th line/PK/energy role either. - BiggE
I agree. And I'm also not saying to make him an everyday player. But given the Flyers' current deficiency at "playing hockey" it might not be a bad idea to give him a chance for a game or two to possibly inject a little life into them.
But only the Flyers coaching staff has the crystal ball that allows them to know exactly what effect a player's insertion/removal will have on a lineup without trying it. We as fan can only guess based on what we've seen, but the Flyers' coaches know for a fact how it will turn out.

Hey I hear ya, I've been wanting to see Morin for a couple of weeks now. He may still be a work in progress but this current D is softer than butter left out on a hot summer day.

But, to your point, they may want to let him play more meaningful minutes at the AHL level. But a guy like Weal will do little to improve his game by racking up points in the AHL.
Also, in my opinion, Hextall errs too much on the side of caution with his young players. Yes, let them develop in the AHL and don't shuttle them back and forth. But at the same time, they need to show that they can handle the NHL at some point. You can't keep them in the AHL forever.
Yes, yes, I know, the coaches "know" more than we do, but it's my opinion.

There are guys who have NHL experience and played well in the NHL that I would go to before trying to use Morin (if they don't think he is ready or want to be cautious.

I get it, I'm just tired of watching our D get physically dominated in our zone and our goalies getting strafed on a regular basis. The hit by Oshie on AMac at the end of the period yesterday is a perfect example. Not one player even took a stride towards Oshie. That is just sad.

If Dave Hakstol gets fired, does that mean all his lineup decisions were still correct?
I don't mean it as a kickstarter for a does Dave Hakstol get fired discussion...just in theory. Does a coach getting fired mean that some of the choices they made were incorrect?
If the new coach changes the lines and the results are better, then sure.

Laughton and Cousins got to the NHL pretty quickly. And of course Provy and TK made it as teenagers. I just think Weal isn't seen as being NHL-caliber by the Flyers (or the Kings).

Well, yeah, he's probably not gonna stand for that judging by his work over the weekend.

With how little defense the forwards and the team are playing right now too, it isn't an environment I want Morin to acclimate himself to the NHL. As far as Morin is concerned, it would be caution #1

Maybe they dislike him as much as the average fan does.
This is not aimed at you cause almost everyone does it, but what is with the A in front of Mac? There's only one Mac-anything on the roster. It's like still calling Schenn BSchenn even though Luke left a year ago.

I got ya, and you're probably right. D usually take longer to develop than forwards. But as some mentioned earlier, I wouldn't mind seeing Leier get another chance and Cousins should be in the lineup every game. I also want to see Laughton hopefully get another shot before the end of the season.
The Flyers had some pretty good success in 84-85 with kids like Tocchet, Smith, Zezel, etc.., none of them spent any time in the AHL at all.

I know Laughton made the team as an 18-year-old, mostly because of the Briere injury, before he got returned. But neither he nor Cousins have been cemented as regulars, and have been waived/healthy scratched often in place of "consistent" veterans. I also feel like Stolarz was handled poorly, as sitting on the bench and doing nothing so that Mason could start a ridiculous number of games to probably didn't favor his development.

I meant making it as a regular. Which happened when he was 20 after six weeks of AHL time.

I don't think the A is meant to differentiate from other Macs, but rather just a part of his nickname.
I feel like Hexy and Hak are opposed to anyone that plays like this.. - opeth_pa
If he'd turned his back on the player, skated to the bench with his head down, and committed a few turnovers, he's have been called up. Because that's what "consistent" players do.

Okay, that's one, and Cousins is a semi-regular. What other young AHL players have earned more than a cup of coffee under Hexy? Manning, who got a chance because he was less dreadful than AMac in camp. Ghost, who was reluctantly called up (by Hexy's own admission) due to the Streit injury. That's what I can think of.
