I read the blog the other day after the Flyers game, and read the first couple comments pages, and some posters were asking another about how their date with Nucker to some place went, and I legit was confused af. I never ever read or go to other threads, but I just did it that day when no one was posting here, and I'm not sure what to think about anything anymore. That's why I don't go to other threads. James Tanner's blogs basically attract the Mouth Breather All-Star team from all the blogs.

But seriously, I learned pretty early that the other ones are cesspools. Almost all of them. As bad as this one gets sometimes, there's a whole lot more hockey talk and sophisticated discussion here. Having the best blogger here probably has to do with that. This blog is also a little more tightly moderated.

Oh I go to tanner's thread all the time. Typically I won't post anything unless he puts up some decent music but that place is where dreams go to die.

I looked and I think they have only ONE player who was drafted, and it was a 7th rounder. That's impressive. Good as they are though, I don't know how a team like BU or North Dakota or Denver wouldn't beat them when it matters with all their NHL talent.

Which flavors should we get for our Frozen Four party?

This is the only blog that is run as a monarchy. I think that has a lot to do with it.

I haven't gone in there to read comments in over a year, but I learned something very quickly about James Tanner. He is Corsi MJL.

I think one would have to lay out the parameters of what is meant by skill. Is it the most talented players? Better hands and offensive ability? I think I know what you're getting at. I just think the possibility exists that doing so, could make it worse.
- MJL

I think the Flyers have players in the system and ones that get scratched more regularly that can raise the overall skill level of the team, possibly making it easier to compete at even strength. While the negative side of it does exist (making it worse) it isn't as though the players in question won't be around to get plugged back in if the Flyers feel like it.

There is really nothing wrong with what they are doing (except Vandvelde should be able to be scratched), but there really isn't proof that another way isn't more right.

I don't know how much pure skill they have in the system though, beyond the NHL guys, and many of them suck at 5v5 too. Laberge is a pure skill type, but he has his flaws, and he's less of a sure thing than Konecny was in my mind. But he has dazzling hands. Rubtsov too has a ton of skill and can stickhandle in a phone booth and make creative plays, but he's not a dynamic guy by nature. After them, it's mostly barren. We have some guys with maybe middle 6 potential; some strong 2-way centers good down low; some power forward wingers with some skill, but they're more support types. It's a current need but more importantly a long-term need. I said last year, it may be time to trade up for a select individual or two. I'll say the same this year if a guy like Necas or Pettersson is hovering around 10.

We'll probably be able to trade back and nab an additional draft pick.

MJL at least uses logic and facts to make his arguments, whereas Tanner just blabbers on based on his whims at the moment. Also, I am 99% certain that Tanner's blogs are just a ridiculous troll on his readers, as some of the stuff he says, even for a crazy person, is just too crazy to believe.

I would say Chris Gratton or a 2002 version of Adam Oates would really be a boon for this team now

If they can't trade up, in a weak draft, I'd rather do that and get another high 2nd, where drafts tend to stabilize and you just increase your odds of finding a solid player. Or package it with a roster player for something bigger. If anyone is still sore they traded back to get Rubtsov, who they would've probably just taken at 18, and then got Laberge, another top 6 type projected 1st, I don't know what to tell ya.

But does it really matter if they make the Play-Off this year when again they start at the lower wildcard spot? Still with a bad run they are 6th in scored goals.
They just need to settle there defence and get rid of MDZ,Streit,Schultz by end of saison and get a right hand shooting D-man in the system .Mark Alt is the only one I can see from all the prospects

Not for us anyway, but the coaching staff and the GM have a pretty good idea.

I am referring more to the now than their prospect pool in general. The head coach scratches guys like Ghostisbhere and Gudas and then fans expects the guys to not get curb stomped on the road. On an individual game basis it is fine, but over the course of the season why is it any less likely to take a toll on a player than defensive minutes would? That is what I am getting at here. They need to either throw PEB line to the wolves and say dont get scored on while playing huge minutes to free up the other guys at evens, or inject more skill to the PEB line and allow them to do more than control the puck in the offensive zone along the boards.

They could go after Sami Vatanen who seems like the odd dman out in Anaheim with the expansion draft. He's a bit small, but is a two-way RHD who kills penalties for the Ducks.

It would have been 4th, but he'll have lost a close race to Christian Marti in 2021.
