I busted my ass every sport I played, whether as a kid, teen, or in my 20s and 30s, and I never got paid a cent. Sorry, there is no excuse for lack of effort, none.
In Greenbergs new book, he talks about how impressed the team was in 2007 with Jason Smith blocking shots and going all out in training camp and preseason. That's a captain! Bobby Clarke and Dave Poulin never took a shift off, nor did guys like Eric Desjardins, Kimmo Timonen and Ian Laperriere. This is what I expect of a Captain. - BiggE

it aint how long they are signed for, its how effective they are when hou keep waiting and waiting - puckhead17
2019-2020 is when this team's window opens if you listened when Hextall was hired he pretty much told everyone that. So yeah G might not be the 1C anymore but he'll make a good 3C cup winning captain. This team was a really bad dumpster fire under the last years of Holmgren. But it was masked by a cup run and playoff appearances. We are paying for that now.
When Babcock and Lou arrived in Toronto they warned of pain. Guess what the Flyers are in that same boat. I know it and I'm willing to go through the pain to be in the building during the runs to the cup that should follow this process. |

I agree 100% with Hextall saying he won't trade the future for something of a rental type guy or a vet who carries a bad contract. But I really think the type of losses has forced him to think long and hard about the core group. Of the current NHL team, Frankly other then Konecny, Provorov and Simmonds....all scenario's should be explored. Honestly I'm sure hextall knows this as well, regardless of what he says publically. - landros 2

I had Jake to that core untochable group for me..
If you can move some combo of G, Ghost, Coots, Schenn and restock the offensive pool with high end prospects to coincide with the D and goalie prospects getting here then great.
What i dont do is make a trade to get them closer to thr playoffs tbis season, i want a cup.
All that being said, the team on the ice needs to show a little pride in the jersey. I get this isnt the classic NHL where you could beat people up but again i go to players getting hit and the Caps players laughing yesterday. Tired of watching them robot HAK through games.. |

im tired of hearing sbout his (frank)ing riches in blueline youth, moving one or two for a mid 20's guy who can play now still leaves you with a few young pieces.
no one is saying get adam oates for christs sake, you try and do something.
a team capable of winning 10 in a row doesnt stay in a full blown stubborn rebuild. that tells me as a veteran player he doesnt give a poop about what Im doing now. - puckhead17
If the Flyers were in a full blown rebuild, Hextall would've already made trades to move veterans for future assets.

Maybe Hextall would've listened if you guys gave him these suggestions during the 10 game winning streak. He is probably too busy now - YuenglingJagr

Would I scratch him? No.
Would I bench for a period if I caught him lackadaisically gliding back again? Damn straight I would. |

I don't think I pointed to anyone's analysis of a trade idea...I just get where Hextall is coming from with regards to where this team is and trades. But I actually think his job is to see what's out there and be proactive after witnessing the poop show on the weekend. - landros 2
Which is exactly what he said he is doing. Listening but nothing is there right now to make that move. |

Not defending it at all. It's a major issue with him all over the ice right now. Hopefully a break has him come back more mentally and physically prepared to lead this team.
But Provorov needs to do a better job with his coverage on that play. If you take away the pass to OVI on that play it could've gone a number of different ways. - Baxter27
As I said he went to the wrong guy to start then realized and attempted to get over to OV. if G backchecks there play over. I can live with errors that are physical at times (like the puck hopping on MDZ and Provorov fumbling the puck at the blue line). I can even live with errors of being too over aggressive. Mental mistakes are annoying but worse to be are lack of effort mistakes like not busting your ass to get back. |

I think Provorov went to the wrong guy (maybe lack of communication between the two), however, he still did get over enough to pretty much make OV's option to pass to the trailer who HAS to be picked up by the first backchecker which was Giroux. I don't care what he thought may happen.....he has to pick him up. So what if OV shot it? the rebounds comes out to the middle for a slam dunk. If G takes him man most likely the goal is prevented. he got caught gliding and watching. G is one of my favorite players and I defend him but his lack of backchecking lately cannot be defended - nastyflyergirl
Two different kinds of mistakes. One is a 19 year old rookie who makes a mistake with effort. The other is a 29 year old veteran captain who makes a mistake with no effort.

Flyers are more than only a few pieces away. Hextall knows this. He can't trade this team into a contender during the season. Bill alluded to this, and the point that they aren't as good as a 10 game win streak would suggest, and they aren't as bad as they're playing right now, from an overall aspect. Both comments are spot on. - MJL
truthfully I think they are the sum total to both....roughly a 500 team |

D normally take longer to develop than forwards.
Do yourself a favor and go to the Flyers website and click multimedia, Then look for Hextall videos after the Boston game and after the Washington game and come back and say he don't care and he's not listening to offers to help this team. |

A bubble team we knew they were going into the season. That the overreaction is happening now that the losing to normalize the 10 game win streak is happening. |

Washington is a quality PK team so this may be an over reaction but does anyone think it may be time to balance the power play units.
Teams are starting to take away the lanes between Jake and Giroux as well as many other go to plays. All they were giving them yesterday was the left side perimeter and the occasional Jake shot pass from a distance.

I'm cool with Hexy's plan. Forwards traditionally develop faster than Dmen and goalies. So, by 2020 when the young Dmen are hitting their primes, I'm confident that one of there top goalie prospects will be ready to be that #1 guy and forwards like Konecny, Lindblom, Rubtsov, Vorobyov, Laberge, Allison and hopefully some high picks from 2017 and 2018 are ready for prime time as well. Since guys like G, Jake, Simmonds, Coots and Schenn will all be between 27-32, they should also still be able to contribute in a top 9 role. Now 1 or 2 of those core guys may not be here by then and not every prospect will pan out, but either way, Hexy's plan is a sound philosophy in a capped league. |
