It would have been 4th, but he'll have lost a close race to Christian Marti in 2021. - jmatchett383

Not for us anyway, but the coaching staff and the GM have a pretty good idea. - MJL
Is this the go to response for Vandevelde sympathizers now? As someone who has watched the Flyers play hockey, I feel qualified enough to know that they have more skilled players than him and I have a hunch he would still be around to put back into the lineup without much effect if they chose to do so. The risk is that the Flyers lose the same games that they are already losing. I do admit that I am not the GM of the Flyers and I am not a threat to Hextall's job. With players in the system that have played in the NHL before, I am simply pointing out that it isn't like the Flyers have exhausted all options besides a trade
Two things regarding the situation are absolute fact:
1. They have not yet tried it
2. We won't know if it works until they do |

TJ Brennan broke Bobby Orr's scoring record during he first 26 games of the 2019/2020 season, but was accidentally punched in the stomach by Sam Morin and died from a case of "You have a big (frank)ing hole in your stomachitis." The voters wanted to give him the Norris despite him only playing 26 games, but Sam Morin gave them all a case of "(frank), please stop punching me in the faceitis" and they voted for Alt instead. |

Yes, because the Flyers will likely have the #1 overall pick this year.
Also, I'd gladly take Nolan Patrick #1 this year and compare him to Matthews. |

would've gone down as the first player to win the Norris trophy posthumously and we would be able to talk about him forever |

It seems to be your go to response. I didn't mention Vandevelde. I know you have a hard on for him. I think most people know that there are on paper more talented players that they could try. It seems as though some think that running an NHL team is just throwing crap up against a wall and seeing if it sticks. My point is that it's not about what we know what will work or won't until it's tried, and more about what they as professionals running a hockey team know. For example, I'm certain that if the Flyers felt that a player like Leier could help the team, he'd be in the lineup. There's a reason why he isn't. |

I would be ok with different via no trade. Not sure how much more I can take watching the same dudes make the same mistakes over and over. Throw in the lazy play and you got unwatchable hockey. I am fine with an internal shakeup. Costs nothing really. |

So they know, as a 100% fact, that putting Taylor Leier (or another "more skilled" player) into the lineup in place of VandeVelde (or another "less skilled" player) won't help the team? This is a 100% known conclusion, and there is a 0% chance that it could improve the team?
I think it may be unlikely to work, but it's an avenue I'd like them to explore given their recent play. |

He was saying the Flyers don't think Leier is a better option than anyone on the current roster. Not sure he said it was a known conclusion. That's just how they see it. |

I dont think that is what he is saying. But what I do think he is saying is that the Coaches and management probably have a better idea of WHY VDV is playing over Leier than we do.
EVen if we cant fathom what that reason would be...... |

So in response to my post about the Flyers could and maybe should try something different, you say if they wanted to that they would. Thank you for that wonderful glimpse into the Flyers front office. |

There is apparently a need to state that Dave Hakstol knows why he scratches certain players better than we do |

Best guess: they think it's more important for Leier to continue his development in the AHL than it is to bring him up and play him 7-8 minutes per game on the 4th line.

That's not the point. The point is they know better than us, they have more information than us. They don't make roster decisions based on hey, lets give this a try.

I'd rather they just replace VdV with Read on Saturday. |
