They aren't trading him and it would cost more than that. Provorov has to be the major piece or it's a non starter. It's moot.

I was talking the other day about how Giroux was taken off the PK, which he's great at, to keep him fresh. Well, he's not scoring any more 5v5. Why not use that time he would've PKed and put him on the PP for an extra 30-40 seconds with the 2nd unit? It makes too much sense. It's not an exhaustive role on the half wall. He's averaging almost the exact same amount of 5v5 time this year as last, and the same PP time, but a minute and a half less PK time. Just give him another couple minutes on the PP. It sounds so simple, and given the 2nd unit has been a disaster for a decade (which goes beyond the players IMO), I don't get why they never try it. Move Giroux to that wall, Coots in front, get Dale Weise the hell out of there. Issue?

The Caps have used Ovechkin for the full two minutes and it's always worked well. To be honest, they could just move Couts off of the 2nd PP unit entirely and have him take the few even strength minutes Giroux would miss. Feels like that would be a better way to maximize the current roster.

I wouldnt do that. Literally it would have to be a Provy in a deal to get a McDavid, Matthews, Laine type player and that isnt happening.

Don't see why Couturier can't stay on the PP. He'd just be best on the right wall where he can actually shoot and pass easier, or in front of the net to use his size. It's just nonsensical to be on the right. It's not like he even plays top PK anymore *cough cough*. And I'd surely rather have him on the PP than Dale Weise. Even Konecny isn't that good on the PP...at least yet. He gets a little panicky with the puck and isn't that good slowing down the game.

But, to the point, Giroux, yes.

Coots needs to stay on third line with raffl and peb. My modest opinion thinks we need first line left wing and second line center .

? Giroux. Voracek
Konecny. ? Simmer
Raffl. Coots. Peb
4th line is least of our worries right now.
Schenn should be our trade chip .

Loved Hextall's post game comments.

He's not going to make a crazy move after hearing that media scrum.

He's going to be cool and calculated. But the players are on notice.

I've been saying this for years. Both G and Schenn should play the entire pp.

I'm picturing Hexy, with Holmgren and Brown cracking their knuckles behind him, saying: none of you (frank)ers are irreplaceable, none of you.

He then glares at each and everyone of them and calmly walks out of the room
