During the 10 game win streak, it was a fine line between winning and losing. They won a lot of close games if I remember correctly. They were never dominant in my opinion. Compare the goal differential to a team such as Columbus. Not to mention the GAA per game. - MJL
Exactly.. winning will cover up a lot of the imperfections. Losing exacerbates them.
We have given up more goals than any team in the league... |

Offense is not an issue - Just5
With all due respect, you're not going to win many games averaging less than two goals per game. |

My point is that, while they are bound to go on streaks (good or bad) 33 games is a bigger sample size than 10. They did win 10 straight games (despite playing well or not so well in some of those games). Now they are losing (despite playing well or not so well).
However, nearly half a season (33 games) had them at 28 points. That is down right awful. We are currently in the 8th spot for the playoffs, however Vegas has us at only 20% to make the playoffs. Its not looking good, and there dont seem to be any significant ways to change things barring a big move. - jak521
I see what you are saying. My point is that this has been the team for the last couple of years, and I personally did not expect them to be contender, or even sub-contender. They are preforming exactly the way most expected them to, as a playoff bubble team. |

I really dont care about the primes of G and Jake. I love them and think they are great players, but their prime is not my focus for this roster. They will make the team more exciting and give us a chance to win if everyone develops nicely, but I would never give up future assets I think could be part of a new core in order to help G and Jake win - YuenglingJagr

A team close to the playoffs who think they are player away could. Hartnell waived to go to Columbus so a player waiving his NTC/NMC is not something new. - J35Bacher
Teams don't trade centers or defensemen who are on the brink of becoming stars. They're the most valuable commodities in the sport.
I think you're inflating how much Giroux would be worth. |

Something else about the streaks that is making things look bad. When the Flyers won 10 in a row the teams ahead of them were winning so not much ground was gained. Now that they are losing the teams below them are winning and the cushion is shrinking. |

Good point. The Metro division teams kicking ass and taking names back then was fun but it's not so fun anymore when the team we root for isn't part of the ass kicking squad. |

I've read in other posts that there are nights when guys like VDV and PEB play minutes close to (and sometimes more than) our 'elite' players. I assume the same goes for AMac too....
Guys like G and Jake must get a little frustrated when they see minutes that should maybe be their's handed to other guys, but as professionals likely keep things quiet.
My question involves those other guys....you can't tell me that as VDV's minutes creep up towards the 20 minute mark and he sees ice towards the end of a one goal game (on the losing side) that he himself, doesn't question what's going on! Players aren't stupid. They know their roles.
Is it not possible to believe that this misuse of personnel is weighing on all 25 players in the locker room? How do you fix stuff like that? |

I agree that they are a bit streaky, and that they are maybe a bubble team at best right now, but that 10 game streak was WAY out of the norm. That is my point. They are actually not playing to the level that I had hoped this year. |

VdV got 5 minutes at ES last night. The 4th line have barely got on the ice recently, and for the season their average ice times are nowhere near the elite guys.

As a scientist who looks interprets data for a living, I find a bit of fault the way you are looking this data, or how most people look at data. You are making an assumption that the 10 game streak was out of the norm, but it's part of the data set. So, you can't say that, because it happened. One could argue that the 10 game winning streak is closer to what the flyers are and losses such as last night are out of the norm. You have to look at the data for what it is. I feel like I sound like MJL, so I'm sorry about that....
Honest question, Given the lack of roster turnover, it is possible that your expectations were too high this year?
