Up to the neutral zone in the air. I'm not NHL defenseman, but even with a forechecker, I can probably do this competently, maybe 3/10 times.
Even if he fails, the option he chose was the worst of the possible choices. - jmatchett383
Alright keep believing that. I guess all icings and delay of game penalties are completely unavoidable with this simple safe play available.
I do not endorse the play he made. It was reckless. I'm just saying he's not alone in what lead to a terrible sequence of events. |

Plus most players get a bye week for the AS break anyway.
And why have a bye week when the schedule is already compressed due to the WCoH? - Scoob
sure...scapegoat the WCoH |

There are 4 Sabres in the lane he needs to send that through and one directly behind him creating pressure. Everyone is acting like the sky high dump out of the zone is some easy play that can be made under pressure. It's not, that's why a lot of delay of game penalties happen. - Baxter27

Didn't they say on the broadcast the NHLPA asked for it due to the WCOH participation? If I'm a player I'd want the week off too and deal with the compressed schedule. |

Then ice it. Fire it down the ice if you have no better options. But one of the first things I learned when I played roller hockey as a 10-year-old was that you never throw the puck in the middle of your own zone unless you're 100% sure. I guess they didn't teach that to AMac at any point during his career.
Again, I don't think the play was as egregious and terrible as people say. And I don't think he's the worst player in the NHL. But on this particular play, he made the worst choice presented to him, and I think that has to do with his ability to make quick decisions at the NHL level. That is why I don't want him getting the minute she gets. |

Makes sense...compress the schedule for the WCoH....then compress it again for the AS game....then compress it again for a week off.

and as I said I don't believe people are blaming him completely. What irked people was his statement after the game which pretty much made it seem like he didn't acknowledge his play that started the whole thing |

If my choices are Mason or Neuvy I am going with Mason. I just am not sold on Neuvy holding up. I feel good about Stolie being the backup. - nastyflyergirl
I think if Nuevirth played 60 games he would spontaneously combust. |

I want to see more Stolarz on the Flyers this year. We talk about bringing kids like Morin, Sanheim, etc. up. But they have a prospect that is ready to see NHL ice right now and it's Stolarz. He'll be 23 in a week. I want him to get 15 -20 games in but its not going to happen. Need to find out more about him. Mason is going to get a long term contract with serious money and while I like him, I don't know if that's the right move for the Flyers. Time to take the diapers off hopefully Neuvirth gets moved if he can get some games in and show his worth - Just5
Stolarz has looked very good when he's been in the net. |

Icing the puck late in the period. I'm sure he wouldn't have been scrutinized for that.
I was taught the same thing, I agree with you. But plays are made out of desperation at speeds we can't even imagine. If that pass make's it to Simmonds who is off to the races, everyone loves it. |

For the players...82 games is 82 games. Still the same amount they have to play. Would they go for having extra days off on long road trips or shorten everything up and be guaranteed a week off during the season to have on their own. Choice would be easy for me. |

Yes, he would have been. But I'd rather him ice it than to hastily throw it to the middle. Hell, even if he (frank)s up a chip and it becomes a penalty, that happens, and it's just an error in execution. It's an example of the type of bad decisions that he makes when under pressure why I don't want him given the minutes he's given. If he's playing bottom-pair minutes against lower competition, I'm fine with him.
And yes, in the 1 out of 50 times that pass succeeds if it's (frank)ing Wayne Gretzky passing it, it's a great play.

Or...stop with all the in-season interruptions and simply schedule appropriately |

he almost turns it over twice in a row there. First on that god awful pass to whoever. Next on what should have been a fairly simple d-to-d pass to Provy behind the net that he smashed up the boards. He was just very very bad last night. How he lets that man behind him like that on the PK EVERYTIME drives me nuts. - jak521
It was a simple d to d pass and he made it. Provorov either missed it, or it jumped over his stick. The Sabres isolated a mini 2 on 1 down low. Difficult for one defenseman to cover two players.
