Those gold jersey are dogpoop. I guess something else to be sold to the saps. Seems like they lose almost every time they wear those. - PLindbergh31

That is much better than I thought. I don't like the gold in the jerseys at all. But it is coming from someone who loved the black jerseys so..... |

See I don't agree with that. he made a bad pass. This isn't a beer league, pro players make that pass to Giroux all the time. it was there for the making and he missed him. Time and place tho. with so little time left just get it the (frank) out. Don't worry about possession. Don't worry about a rush. get it out. a turnover was the one thing you can't have. - nastyflyergirl
It's tough to tell but I don't think he's passing to Giroux. I think he's trying to spring Simmonds who is the only forward open. Giroux has a player circling right in front of him waiting to pounce. If whoever on the left side is doing anything other than standing still, it opens up space for the safe play everyone is calling for. I myself would've liked a reverse to Provorov but I have no idea whether he's an option or covered on the play. |

If he's attempting to pass across the middle to Simmonds, that actually makes it worse than a flubbed pass to a soon-to-be-covered Giroux. |

Its the hesitation that doomed him (and something the dooms him a lot). If he passes to G initially its not a problem. Instead it looks like he was going to chip it saw G and hesitates for a split second, loses space and has to force it. Thats how I see it as an AHL d-man (Aston hockey league) |

And when you don't have time or support, you make the safe play. It may not be the perfect play, but it's a hell of a lot better than rushing a pass into the middle of your own zone to a player who has a guy bearing down on him. None of the ones I mentioned probably lead to a goal for the Flyers, but they're all much better options that the choice he made.
My biggest issue with AMac is his usage. You say he didn't have time and support to do anything with precision. That is my issue. I understand that this team isn't the 1976 Canadiens or even the 2010 Flyers, so choices are limited. But a guy playing top pair, even second pair, has to be proficient at making quick reads with pressure. He doesn't, which is what leads to a lot of safe plays at times where he DOES have better options than the safe play.
Again, I'm not blaming him directly or solely for that goal, just stating my issues with him. - jmatchett383
You still need options to make the safe play, he doesn't have many.
He can't go up the wall on his side because it's clogged due to his own team mate standing still. He doesn't have time to settle the puck and flip it out of the zone because a Sabre is closing fast on him. He can take the puck into the boards but that at best is 50/50 whether it creates a turn over with 2/3 forwards leaving the zone. I believe his best option was to reverse the puck but again, I can't see Provorov on the play.

For arguments sake I will say I agree with you (i dont though). He still makes a bad decision and an even worse pass.
Even if all 4 of the other skaters simultaneously fell flat on their faces, he could have flipped the puck out of the zone. |

Can't beat those prices! And I'd get a Provorov jersey if I were to buy one. Sky is the limit for that kid. I believe he's got a chance to become the best D-man in Flyers history. |

You mean passing from the left side of the goal line to the right point with 10 skaters in the defensive zone isnt a wise idea? |

I know I'm in the minority. I thought the black jerseys were sharp. Not a fan of the pumpkin orange they wear now. Wish they would go back to the old shade of orange. |

Yes and it also means 0 Flyers forwards made themselves available for the puck. Which is my point. It's a dumb play by Macdonald but his forwards are responsible for creating better options instead of standing still or flying the zone. |

So chip the puck out of the zone. An NHL defender given the time he had should be able to do this. |

Really gotta wonder about the chances of Mason returning next year if he hovers around this 2.80 and b/w a .900-.910. How much do you really want to pay for that(and be tied into a longer term contract) when odds are you'll get that for a lot cheaper in Stolarz? A Stolarz/Neuvirth tandem wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. |

Agreed, just because you're a top-2 seed doesn't mean you should play 1 less playoff game. |
