When Streit comes back (as those lines suggest he may) they'd have to waive someone in addition to Gordon to bring Laughton up
- YuenglingJagr

If Cousins isn't going to be used as a center or play regularly maybe they try to sneak him on waivers.

I know Vandevelde is a trusted guy but I almost wish they would waive him so you could have a 4th line of Lyubimov - Cousins/Bellemare - Laughton.

I would just put the pressure on the top players. Either they step up or not.

Schenn - Giroux - Simmonds
Konecny - Couturier - Voracek
Weise - Raffl - Read
Lyubimov - Bellemare - Vandevelde

I understand the needing depth in the lineup but I think that will start to happen when some of the prospects start to filter in.

Right now I need my top guys to produce.

And I think it's time to maybe bring Laughton up and just waive Gordon. Laughton needs to sink or swim in some role up here.

- J35Bacher

Replace Weise with Cousins and move Raffl to wing. If you want Weise in the lineup then sit VdV and put him on the 4th line

No doubt he had a solid season last year but that doesn't excuse him from not producing this season.

I hold to my stance that by the end of the season, based off his past performance , he should balance out but like many players on this team he has not produced to the level they need to this point. These are his stats so far and it's not good enough for someone that is a key player on this team.

GP 27
Goals 7
Assists 3
P-M -4

Its not good enough. Its that simple.

And if I sprouted jet engines and wings I'd be an airplane. Weise is crap and AMac is an overpaid 3rd pair Dman. The fact that everyone on this site but you can easily see this makes me wonder what team you are watching.

News flash: coaches and GMs make mistakes, they aren't perfect.
Signing Weise was a mistake
Pairing their best Dman with AMac is a mistake
Sticking Chris Vandevelde out there, night after night is a mistake.

- BiggE

Nice rant and deflection. None of that has anything to do with Wiese having a physical aspect to his game. Nice rhetoric though.

I'd be fine with that.

I just think maybe it's time to place some pressure on the top guys. Also time to put Laughton in the lineup. either he produces or not. But time is starting to come up on him

Bill tweeted that Streit is most likely not ready for tomorrow's game. Saturday possible.

That's false. Wiese is one of the leading hitters on the team. He plays well on the wall. If he can start providing some support offense, he'll be fine.
- MJL

And how long would you be willing to let him go until he can start providing support offense? Because through the Flyer's first 40+ games, that offense has been nonexistent. At what point does he need to sit since he has been short of "fine?"

i doubt he gets through based off of all the other players recently being waived (and claimed). Would be the cherry on top if the vandevelde relationship caused us to lose a player on waivers

It's very interesting how things work. I understand people don't like his contract, neither do I. He had a rough year last year, and was sent to the AHL. Then he was recalled and played well and helped the Flyers get into the playoffs, when they had some key injuries to players such as Del Zotto. This season, he's had a few stretches where he didn't play well, and he had a sub par game last night, but overall, he's played well. The first post of the thread is "anyone done with 47 yet? Pretty funny.
- MJL

is it? is it funny? not really. lots of blame to go around, but he's an easy target for good reason.

I COULDN'T GIVE A FLYING (frank) ABOUT HIS CONTRACT. I DO NOT WANT HIM PAIRED WITH PROVOROV. I DO NOT WANT HIM KILLING PENALTIES. I DO NOT WANT HIM GETTING TOP MINUTES. I DO NOT WANT HIM ON OUR TEAM.

the team has dead weight, just like every year. the top players aren't producing, and not doing much good otherwise. ES is still problem. the PP has dried up. nobody is picking up the slack. they are bad in their own end. it all equals a long losing streak.

i'll be sure to check with you first before i post to make sure something isn't funny.

I enjoyed how Mac was interviewed last night and said about that third goal where he made a terrible terrible turnover: "I don't know what happened on the third one [goal]. It hit a few bodies and stayed in, kind of a broken play coming back. It's a tough one to give up. Unfortunately they got that one."

Are you (frank)ing kidding me? What a way to shift off blame.

What exactly are you seeing from the third line the past few games that will be improved by Cousins taking Weise's spot? Cousins has been useless on the Wing. Unless he's playing Center, which he proved to be ineffective with Simmonds and Schenn earlier in the season, I don't want him in the line up.

my thoughts on the team's struggles in general and why VDV and AMac get all the blame:

It is not difficult to watch most of the Flyers games this season and see where the problems lie. Certainly not any one player's fault. So why do players get singled out? Reading along you can see it is for any number of reasons, but for me it is simply just because the lack of skill is obvious and there really isn't a change in sight.

Using common sense and looking at trends/history (in addition to the never-flawed eye test) I can gather enough information to not be worried about a lot of the other players on the team. I can see what some of the guys are capable of and have confidence they are skilled enough to get it worked out, especially once the skill level of the entire lineup is increased. I believe that Ghost, MDZ, Couturier and Mason will get better, because they have been and there are obvious signs of struggle. Cant say the same about everyone.

So in summary, I will continue to female dog about players like AMac, Schultz, VDV, and PEB, because they are a waste of my time. I don't want them on the team because I don't think they make other players better, and I don't see them getting better themselves. I am supremely confident that even if Hakstol trusts one player more than the next, there is no proof that the Flyers would be in a worse situation playing players like Laughton and Cousins
