The game. He was shooting a lot but was a disaster in his own end. - Mononoke
You watched a different game than I did. He was strong in his own end. Defending rushes well, key shot blocks. Won puck battles, moved the puck well. He had one poor shift where he made a couple of bad turnovers that led to extended zone attack time, but he played a solid game overall. |

Weise out there was garbage. After playing like ass all game and of course he flubs a perfect pass in the slot. Guy has serious cement hands - Just5
Ohhh I agree.
I don't know where the notion came from that defensively responsible guys can't have speed or some creativity. Flyers need to focus on a culture change away from slow players with questionable puck skill.
Weise doesn't make the US or Can junior team. |

Weise is excellent puck manager! He delegates by dumping it off the boards |

Konecny has made a lot of bad decisions with the puck and has been scratched a couple of times, due to some deficiencies in his game. He's young and 19. It's understandable. It's also reasonable to state that in the situation on the road, put out your best offensive players. I can see both sides of it. - MJL
Actually 3-3 is a lot easier to play defense .. ....man on man coverage....tough bounces tonight. It could have gone either way. Bob was the difference. |

I don't get him playing in OT...perhaps a reward from the coach for something.... |

Flyers play man to man defense at 5 on 5. 3-3 is harder, because there is a lot more open ice. Why do you think the game at 3-3 is wide open. If it's easier to defend, why did the league go to 3-3 in OT to increase scoring?
Agreed on the game. |

With the exception of the one shift where MacDonald had a couple of turnovers, he played a real strong game, just as he has for a considerable amount of time. I have no idea what you're watching. - MJL
He's been way better this year...still has the odd gaf and bad period....but he is atleast serviceable again.

Wiese is a veteran player, who plays well away from the puck. The issue is the guy has shown zero offense pretty much all season, so I think the criticism of putting him out in 3-3 in OT is valid. I also think in some situations, you should say screw matchups and playing defense, and go for the win. That's when Konecny should see some 3-3 OT ice time.

Which is exactly what should have happened with a point already in the bank on the road. |

Because theres more ice and more room to make plays...it opens up space. Defence in 3-3 is simple man on man...nothing easier then that. I'm sure the coach has a reason for not playing Konecny but it sure can't be because it's a hard concept to grasp 3-3 play.....that makes zero sense.

More ice, and more room to make plays, makes it harder to defend, not easier. It's about trust, based on the Konecny's play during the season.

Why isn't one of our best defenders Gudas out there instead of a player like Ghost if its harder to defend? |

You don't know why? It's about matchups. Hakstol uses Gostisbehere with Giroux and Voracek in OT. You're not going to play a defensive posture for the entire 5 minutes of 3 on 3 OT.
