The problem with SuperSchennBros is his 5vs5 is suspect and quite frankly, he doesn't hit the net enough.

Might want to change his name is SuperSchenn and drop the Bros as well since the other Schenn no longer plays for the team. Just a thought. That would reflect better Corsi numbers and reduce the hyperbole.

I really wonder what the FO is thinking. You would think if they really thought Mason was the answer they would have tried to resign him earlier instead of waiting until FA period where prices seem to get a little inflated.

Is there anyone overseas that is coming over that could interest the Flyers like when they found Bobrovsky?

- J35Bacher

Depending on how Stolarz plays down the stretch and in the AHL playoffs, they might re-sign Neuvirth to a 2 year deal and go with him and Stolie in 17-18

Just pointing it out...a lot of people fell in love with Luca Sbisa, too.

Granted, he was never projected to be what Provorov is projected to be, but still...

The game isnt just played at 5 vs 5. As much as you use 5 vs 5 as a reason why Coots is awesomesauce you cant then throw out the PP when looking at other players production.

When I look at the list of problems on this team...Right now...Coots and Schenn not consistently producing is more troubling to me then how Giroux is .

No doubt 100% the Flyers need more from G and Jake at ES but to me they need more from Coots and Schenn for them to succeed.

- opeth_pa

Voracek is producing at a solid clip at ES. Giroux, our other $8m+ player, is miles behind him.

If Couturier was the problem with PP2 they could try taking him off it. Except that has already been tried when he has missed 35 games over the past season and a half, and it did not get better.

I could see that.

I know everyone keeps talking about this 10million in cap space next season but if they plan to resign Mason and if Gostisbehere gets something close to 5 like some say is on high side. How much do you think they have left then? I would assume Mason will want a raise and if he is the number one he'll want number one money. So I would assume that's going to be around 5 maybe 6 million.

They still have some cap maneuvering to do until I think they are in a good shape.

He might not be. He may never be. What we do know is what he provides and we need it

Well, the $10M was assuming Ghost gets $5M, so it's really closer to $15M. If Mason stays, I don't think he gets a big raise.

Mason isn't going to get anywhere near that much money. He's a .903 goalie after half a season.

Biron was a top 10 goalie during his two years as the Flyers starter, and put up .915 in his contract year. Even so, the Flyers let him walk and he ended up having to take one year deal at $1.4m from the Islanders.

Yes.

Sandstrom will probably play at least 1 more year in the KHL. Madsen and Tomek will likely finish their 4 years in the NCAA. At some point (likely next year), one of Lyon or Stolarz will either be in the NHL or be with another team. Hart will be with the Phantoms in 2 years time. I don't see Fedotov as a realistic option.

Seriously I haven't had this fun watching a Flyers Defenseman since Kimmo. I love watching good sound defensive players and other than a few miscues here and there Provorov brings that.

My only thing is Provorov will probably face the play that McDonagh of the Rangers sees now. Get him behind his own goal line and pound the poop outta him. I loved one segment last night when McD got the puck just at the right place behind his goal line and BAM BAM BAM 3 hits by Flyers against him.

I do agree about his value increasing around the deadline, especially as more injuries will occur to other teams, but my fear is he gets nicked up again around the deadline and he's untradeable. I think this happened to Streit last season if I'm not mixing up another season.

I don't believe the Flyers attempted to trade Steit in past seasons.

I don't see him taking less to stay. Especially with other teams needing goaltending. He's making 4.1 now. I don't think 5-6 is out of reach on the open market. Frederick Anderson is getting 5 a season.

Every star defenseman gets targeted especially in the playoffs. It's something he'll have to deal with if he gets there.

I think it will be a modest raise, if at all. Unless he really turns things around, teams may view him as a goalie who lost his game for a second time.

That's why it will be crucial to hopefully have Sanheim, Myers and even Hagg possibly make it. If they can spread some of it out then maybe it can lessen his load a little.

Andersen didn't go .903 in his contract year, he went .919. And Andersen is currently a .920 starter on a Toronto team with an awful defense.

Your perception of Mason's value is way off. Unless there's a big turnaround, he's going to be in a similar position to Dubnyk in 2014 after he went .894 as the Oilers starter. His three previous good seasons counted for very little on the market.

That's actually a damn good comparison. Had good numbers, crapped the bed in his contract year.

The goalie market is brutal.
