it actually all goes back to the Lindros trade. So all moves are connected

11-5-2 in their last 18, who wouldn't have agreed to that on November 27?

The streak was nice but I think we're seeing a return to what this team really is right now - a playoff bubble team.

That's fine. It was my expectation going into the season. Next season is the one to expect bigger things.

There is a lot of mistakes by this team that I can forgive this season because most of us know that we aren't contenders this year. We're a playoff team but not a Cup contending team. With this said, when Hextall came in, many claimed his blueprint as being a "three year plan". By the end of this year will mark three years since Hextall was handed the keys to the kingdom. I'm gonna hold these fans to their words.

By the end of next season, I don't want to roll into the playoffs as some kind of sacrificial lamb. Most of the key pieces are in place. Elite forwards such as Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds. You have forwards still on the raise in Couturier and Schenn. Ivan Provorov is leading this team in ice time. He should be without question a number one defenseman much sooner than later. Last, regardless of faults, Steve Mason is a number one goaltender. It shouldn't even be a debate that Neuvirth should walk, Stolarz should back up with more playing time and Hextall should sign a borderline NHL back up like Jason Labarbara or something as a safety net.

Speaking of UFAs, we have a lot of space that's about to clear up. Streit, Schultz, even Umberger. This summer, Hextall has to spend real money on real depth. We cannot have another Weise/Gordon summer. Resigning Bellemare and Vandevelde because they've been good soldier will be unacceptable. There will be a small margin for error when this season ends.

too inconsistent, huh? interesting

his 12th best in the NHL 5v5 save% in the 4 years he has been here suggests otherwise. 25th best in all save percentage. I guess the stats are skewed by that one Vezina winning season he had...

- YuenglingJagr

That's nice but the game isn't always 5v5.
Where does he rank in overall save%?
Where does he rank in GAA?
Where does he rank in wins?

Calm the frank down, Masonites, I'm not attempting to bash him, just trying to get a more robust picture than one selected #fancy can provide.

Not sure how much money they need to lose to bring Streit back, but if it's 1.9 million or less, it seems pretty simple to me.
Step 1: Waive or trade Nick Schultz
Step 2: waive Dale Weise

Whoever they waive or demote will be enough to bring Streit back. It's only a roster issue.

That was true for Alt but, if Bill's correct, it won't be the case for Streit.

"The Flyers will have a salary cap problem, as well as a roster numbers issue, when defenseman Mark Streit (shoulder) is activated from long-term injured reserve, which Hextall said is a matter of days, not weeks. Streit will accompany the Flyers to their road game in Columbus on Sunday, although he may not yet be activated."

Whatever 23 players they have on the roster, they will be under the cap. It's easy to check.

https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/flyers

In the unlikely event that the cheapest player on the roster is waived to make room for Streit, the total cap hit would be $72,449,167.

If I'm the Flyers, prior to the expansion draft, I'm signing Ray Emery to the NHL minimum for next year with the understanding that we can either mutually terminate after the expansion draft or that he will be sent to the Reading Royals. There's your exposed goalie. Protect Stolarz, handshake deal with Mason (if you plan on resigning him) or go with Stolarz/backup.

I think you could do better than a retired player.

The Ducks just signed Tokarski to be their unprotected ED goalie.

I think Schenn is the guy I would move. Even if Couturier is nothing more than a 3rd line center, he still can provide something that this team needs as a solid defensive center, pk guy

Why are we trading guys when we're six months away from having around $10m in cap space, even if Ghost gets $5m, which is on the high side?

MDZ and Mason playing their way out of town is not good for making the playoffs this season, but it does free up a lot of space for next season.

But we can just buy better guys and then add them to the current guys and raise our overall level of guys. I call it addition by addition.

Only after we fire Stevens and trade Carter.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm looking at trying to trade MDZ for a piece to make this team better for the future. As we know D are always a part teams that are playoff bound are looking for. If we can get MDZ, Schultz or maybe Streit off the books sooner than the end of the year for something that might help in the future I'm all for it. Remember we got 8 D on the roster when all are healthy that's not normally a good thing.

Agree.

I think Del Zotto or maybe Streit could be options for Edmonton. Everything I read and listen to seems to say they want defense to sure up for playoff run. I think both our guys could help. If I could get a big body forward like Maroon I would be happy. I like Maroon can play up and down lineup. He has underrated skill and also brings an edge. I might aim for a player like that. Not sure picks are always worth it.

If MDZ is gonna sit when Streit comes back then Hextall should move him now.

If he can. No one is making trades right now.
