I thought Read was good last night, and has been good since he came back. He was one of their better players last night. Unfortunately, he didn't get much help on his line. Couturier was terrible last night. I think that line has promise, but not with Couturier playing like that.

Good at what?

Staying to the perimeter. Forcing passes through clogged lanes. Providing no offense.

I thought the line was bad as a whole.

All kidding aside, with Stolarz, Lyon, Hart and Sandstrom all in the system, I don't want them signing any goalie for more than 3 years.

I really wonder what the FO is thinking. You would think if they really thought Mason was the answer they would have tried to resign him earlier instead of waiting until FA period where prices seem to get a little inflated.

Is there anyone overseas that is coming over that could interest the Flyers like when they found Bobrovsky?

I'd have to disagree that the Flyers did fine .

Though I understood the trade at the time, I was on record as not liking it one bit. And that included signing Breeze in the first place. Just another emotional, knee jerk, cap restraining move. And as it turned out, I was (for one of the very few times) right.

I actually liked Bobo and wanted him to be given some patience to fully develop. It was only my opinion at that time but I liked his stye, reminding me a bit of Pelle.

Can we really judge a trade on personal feelings and what one person wanted, or should the trade be judged on the situation, and the market value for a player?

given the goalie market and the expansion draft, there are good reasons why they dont need to and maybe even shouldnt commit to either goalie

Read was consistently around the puck, in on the fore check, and winning puck battles. The problem was when he had the puck and was looking to pass it, he had nobody open to pass to. What causes a player to force passes through clogged lanes? I agree the line was bad, but not because of Read.

Agreed. He was, at the time, viewed as an average starter/good backup and the Flyers could either lose him to the KHL for nothing or trade him for something. Two second round picks was a good return for him at the time.

Why bid against yourself like that? It's a contract year and, as much as I've defended Mason, he's not exactly killing it this year.

Let the goalie situation play out.

This is true...he sucks...BGSM for a reason. Someone should tell him he needs to be better. OMG did you see that one time he let in a goal from center ice?

I get that.

I would love to know what they thought though. With having two goalies being UFA and the expansion draft it's interesting. Also if both Mason and Neuvirth play subpar down the stretch are they confident enough in Stolarz to start if they decide they don't want to resign either?

It's just interesting to me.

If I'm the Flyers, prior to the expansion draft, I'm signing Ray Emery to the NHL minimum for next year with the understanding that we can either mutually terminate after the expansion draft or that he will be sent to the Reading Royals. There's your exposed goalie. Protect Stolarz, handshake deal with Mason (if you plan on resigning him) or go with Stolarz/backup.

I honestly have no idea what your question even means.

I judge a trade whether it benefits the team, which the Breeze move did not.

It did not. But the return on the trade and the Bryz signing are not linked. The trade itself is, but the return is not. Two second round picks for a goalie who was, at the time, an average starter who was threatening to move to a different continent was a good return.

The Bryz signing was a mistake. No one will argue that, even Homer if he was honest. However, being that it happened, and that Bob then wanted out, the return they got was pretty decent.

Edit: Judging by your second line, are you referring to the Matt Clackson + 3rd for Bryzgalov trade? Because it sounds like you're talking about the Bryzgalov trade.

Who said trade Gostisbehere?

To be fair, Joe Juneau's game dropped off fairly significantly in 93/94.

People wanted to trade him (maybe him plus) for either Trouba and/or Duchesne yesterday.

In my view, the Bryzgalov signing is a different transaction, and independent of the Bobrovsky trade, and the value they got in that trade.

it actually all goes back to the Lindros trade. So all moves are connected

Yep. That's like saying they traded Forsberg, Hextall,$15M and everyone else for Jan Hlavac, Pavel Brendl, and Kim Jonsson.

Edit: Wow....that was weird.

Don't they all? Right back to the founding of the franchise in 1967 or whenever.

It can all be traced back to Ed Snider's birth. What a horrible birth, Flyers are the worst.
