I think it will be a modest raise, if at all. Unless he really turns things around, teams may view him as a goalie who lost his game for a second time.
- jmatchett383

I think if he takes modest raise then he wants security in years or NMC/NTC which I would be nervous about.

I think he's even more important than other D prospects. He's the other key style defender we've been lacking.

I don't. Especially this year with the ED coming up, most teams who wanted a starter got one before the season.

He can want whatever he likes, but that doesn't mean he'll get it.

Different role. I was thinking more of the two way puck mover guys.

I see Morin as a shut down type. not someone I am going to really rely on to carry the puck as much as Provorov, Myers, Sanheim or even Hagg

That means he's more likely than them to be retrieving the puck in his end, no?

I get it.

Hey I am a Morin supporter. I think his skillset is absolutely needed even in this new NHL.

Point is. It will be crucial to have that depth to help maybe take some of the targeting off just Provorov .

Andersen didn't go .903 in his contract year, he went .919. And Andersen is currently a .920 starter on a Toronto team with an awful defense.

Your perception of Mason's value is way off. Unless there's a big turnaround, he's going to be in a similar position to Dubnyk in 2014 after he went .894 as the Oilers starter. His three previous good seasons counted for very little on the market.

Goalies don't get contracts based off of the previous seasons save percentage. It factors into it, but please keep giving us a daily update on Mason's like it is all that matters

Agreed. This team needs more talent at forward not less. The bottom six on this team is not very good. This team basically has three forwards that can put up points regularly.

While Schenn and Couturier are not elite, both can put up points from time to time. They need to add. Not saying via trade or FA. However, if they can get the right player via trade or FA I am all for it.

Would love to see an elite finisher with Giroux and Voracek.

- mickel25

Sometimes I think the expectations of fans, on what is a good scoring total is out of whack. Look at the stats last year, or any season, and see how many forwards each team has that scored 50 or more points. Last season, Schenn scored 59 points, which put him tied for 45th in the NHL in scoring. He's on pace again to score 50 + points. Flyers really need to improve their depth and overall team play, more than they need to add an elite finisher. 50 points is a solid scoring total in today's NHL

I actually think his comp. to Dubnyk is pretty spot on.

Yes, they do.

Dubnyk got a 1 year contract at $800K after his 13-14 season where his SV% was .891.

Dubnyk got a 6 year deal at $4.33m after his 14-15 season when his SV% was .929.

I don't want to see this team pack it in. I would like to see an improvement in personal. They need a legit 2nd line C , more balance up and down, and some players who can bring an edge. I know it can't be done at once, but come on Hextall don't be afraid to shake things up a little. Show the players that this isn't acceptable. You either perform or get ready to pack your bags.

His 13-14 season in which he was traded and left for dead or his 14-15 season where he returned to the form he showed (something Mason already did). Timing of contracts has a ton to do with how much a player makes, but it also has a lot to do with reputation and expectation. The contract does not define how good a player is, which is what you've suggested the last few days.

I guess looking back on the situation we can say Edmonton made the right call ridding themselves of that trash

So when is Mason getting traded?
- YuenglingJagr

February 17th

I'm not saying Mason's bad, and I'm not saying his entire body of work in the NHL will be dismissed in favor of solely his 16/17 save%. I'm just saying that he's not doing himself any favors right now, especially when the market for goalies is fairly dry right now due to the trades made in preparation of the ED.

That Edmonton team was awful in 2013-2014 when he had those numbers. I think they only had 29 wins or something. We talk about team play in front of mason so shouldn't that also be a factor in the Dubnyk case?

Actually, what I've suggested is that performance in a contract year is a crucial factor in how big a goalie's next contract ends up being.

You've decided to contest that entirely uncontroversial observation for some bizarre reason.

I don't believe the Flyers attempted to trade Steit in past seasons.
- MJL

I'm not sure if we actually attempted but his name was certainly in rumor talks leading up to and around the deadline.
