The need to trade anyone in the top six is laughable to me. No I wouldn't trade Schenn. No I wouldn't trade Couturier. In fact I would look to add if anything. - SuperSchennBros
Agreed. This team needs more talent at forward not less. The bottom six on this team is not very good. This team basically has three forwards that can put up points regularly.
While Schenn and Couturier are not elite, both can put up points from time to time. They need to add. Not saying via trade or FA. However, if they can get the right player via trade or FA I am all for it.
Would love to see an elite finisher with Giroux and Voracek. |

Couturier and Schenn need to elevate their games. (frank)ing turds. - flyer_nutter
There's also our 1C who is scoring 1 point per 60 minutes at 5 on 5 this season. |

Bob was done here. Feeling stuck behind Bryzgalov, Bobrovsky demanded a trade under threat of going of back to Russia to play in the KHL -- this was before NHL and KHL had an agreement to respect each other's contracts . At least that info didn't leak beforehand. In light of the fact they had to make a trade, the Flyers did fine. - bmeltzer
Was this common knowledge at the time? I haven't heard this before. I always thought it was just a terrible trade. |

Michael Del Zotto's overall career has never indicated that he was ever going to blossom into a number one or first pair defenseman. Same with Gudas. Same with Ghost. This is a frustrating and goofy debate I never want to be apart of again. - SuperSchennBros
Oh I've never thought he was a top / first pairing defenseman; his time of ice last season may have shown he was our first pairing but league wide, no way. I was just stating reasons why a lot of people got so high on him coming into this season. |

I think the expectations for MDZ coming into this season were high because of how he shifted his game last season and impressed with his all-around play, even if it meant him losing points. We also saw a possible increased "hurt" of not having MDZ in the lineup with his abscense in the playoff series against Caps. - arichardson22
Possibly, but there were more important players missing during that series. |

That's what I was trying to imply. Losing Couts was far more painful in that series compared to MDZ. Who knows if a healthy MDZ would have impacted the series, but a healthy Couts 100% would have imo. |

That's the thing. Not a lot of them make it to FA so trades usually need to happen. And a lot of people seem to not want to move out any young d prospects.
I look at Schenn. Nice player. But on this team he isn't really a center and not really a wing. He has nice runs at both positions and also times he is invisible.
I would use him as a way to shuffle the roster a little. that's why I look at Colorado. Landeskog would be a great addition to Giroux's wing. And the draft this year seems a little weaker then the past so maybe I use my 1st rounder to help in that. Now Landeskog is just a name. My point is I think I would rather find someone with more a distinct role/position instead of someone who to me is more a tweener of sorts.

would be a hell of a lot of money invested onto that line though, leaving little to upgrade the bottom six or defense. |

I agree. Trade assets for a finisher and continue to complete the roster via the draft. Not saying trade any specific player or trade for any specific player. What I am saying is they need to maximize the output from Giroux and Voracek if they want to really compete. Adding a finisher would do that. |

For me it has more to do with the shape of the roster.
Just say you get Landeskog. He can play on that top line. that allows Raffl to fill in on the 3rd line where I think he would be more beneficial.
I just want a better shape to the roster.

The bottom six should mostly be inexpensive players. Until this team gets more depth you cannot separate Giroux and Voracek. Until then, they need to maximize the output they provide. |

Then we'll just move Jake to 2nd line with Couts and TK to balance the investment to two lines |

I also feel the flyers have bottom 6 types in the system compared to top 6 types. Leier, Laughton, Bardreau, Abel-Kubal, Fazleev and even Linblom if he comes over can play in the bottom 6. |

Agreed. Overall the defense corp should be relatively cheap for the next 3-4 years. Especially, if they hit on a majority of the prospects. Adding a dynamic wing should not be an issue monetarily. |

I wish we could improve our ability to sign a cheap 1-2 year FA for our bottom 6 that contributes. It's getting bothersome seeing teams like Devils (Parenteau) Panthers(Marchessault) and Jackets (Gagner) have these players. . It seems we haven't struck gold on low risk high reward free agent in a while. |

The team has gotten huge contributions from Raffl and MDZ. They also had Gagner and let him walk because GAGNER CAN"T PLAY IN THE BOTTOM 6 BECAUSE NO DEFENSE! |

about putting a six million dollar guy on the third line to balance out scoring?
or having two sub million guys play on the first line with the superstar to have things be cost efficient?
not much actually, because in reality none of these things are my decision anyway |

How about a free agent LW/C like Thornton?
Then you aren't losing Schenn + Sanheim or whatever to get Landy. |
