Pach had a nic e article back a couple weeks about how Lehner is playing as well as Nillson, but the team conveniently forgets to score goals when he is playing....so, is it on him now to actually drive the net and poke in a few himself?
The whole hate on Lehner is so over done, again except for shootouts. Hey forwards...there's 12 of you playing out there...think 3 of you could poke one in a night? Can anyone go these guys actually bury a shot rather than hit posts, shoot wide, fire it into the goalie?
Last game against Boston he stops a shorty breakaway...then gets beat from in front while 2 Sabres screen him.
Lehner isn't the problem.

Are people forgetting that scoring is way down in the NHL yet we're giving up three goals a game
I understand the offense sucks but how do people expect to win when you have to score four goals a game ?

Nope. The GAA is 2.65 which is BETTER than the league average.
His SV% is .922 which is BETTER than the league average.

Now what is worse than the league average is their GF and Shooting %.

I realize people want to hate on him because Murray gave up a mid 1st rounder for him...and that facts have no place on this board...

But place your critic on the areas it should be, not on a part of the game they are actually performing decently at...goal scoring has and continues to be their collective down fall, period.

ok, now for the good things Murray has done

1. finding more than serviceable back up goalies, many times we expected the worst
Nilsson
Johnson
Lindback
Neuvirth

2. getting decent value for miller and ott
in essence he got a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd and Carrier (2nd from moving stewart)

3. getting a throw in for the ROR trade, Mcginn
I had no expectations for him with his back, he performed well and we got a 3rd rd pick for him at the end.

4. trading Moulson and spice boy to the wild, getting in essence 2 2nds and a 7th (moving mitchell)
The crazy part which I give him credit for is he got them to sign with us as ufa's a few months later. I never agreed bring Moulson back but being able to convince a player to go elsewhere and then come back as a free agent says something.

5. getting a 3rd for mike weber, nuff said

the draft picks will play out and we will know more in 5 years, but there has been some good things done

I will avoid talking about the bad for a day or 2

Fair and objective list. I would add one more to it - getting ROR - not just the McGinn part of the trade.

I was never a fan of the Lehner trade but I think Lehner has been a better than average goalie for us. His .922 save percentage is top 15. The 3 goals he let in against the Bruins were not his fault. Not even Bernie Parent in his prime could have stopped them

I have been here for 10 years and read the forum daily (sometimes 30 pages of backtracking). What l don't understand is why certain people come back here just to female dog and moan on a daily basis. Does it make you feel better to try to belittle other posters? You remind me of the guy who failed senior year and comes back to torment the underclassmen (yes I am thinking of O'Bannion).

I enjoy hearing the insights and the positives. We know who is not playing well. Every player on our team is an NHL caliber player whether you like to admit it or not (besides Grant maybe). We have the talent to bet a top 5 team in the conference.

Everyone loves to female dog about Murray, but what really has he done that has been horrible for the team's future? Traded a 1st for a goalie who has better numbers than Luongo right now? Or give 2 firsts for Anderson, who's numbers are not much better?

Trade Pysyk for a top 4 defenseman and move up to get the guy you want? Kulikov could be traded at the deadline and Pysyk could be lost at the expansion draft.

I know everyone here could do a better job as GM, but what we have now is better than what we have had in a long time. Darcy had how many years and everyone wants to fire TM after 3years?

- adambuffalo

Andersen was for a 30th overall and a 2nd the next year.

Pysyk could have also been traded at the deadline(and for 1/4 of the cost of Kulikov).

Murray was never guaranteed Asplund when that trade was made. That was fabricated by Sabres fans.

And this team needs a major overhaul on D and more speed up front if they want to be top 5 in the conference.

To be fair, Andersen has been phenomenal.

You think 27 is old for a goalie?

- walshyleafsfan

No I am just saying that they are similar to us, where a cup run is 3 years away, so he will be 30 when that happens. Every person is different, not saying that is even old for a goalie just that Lehner is younger and so is our team.

He has been playing well, good for them. Just how Lehner gets roasted for being traded for a 1st and this guy was traded for very comparable value.

Just finished back reading,

Is it possible to have a rational analysis of the Pysyk for Kulikov trade? Everyone complaining about tha deal seems to have these rose colored memories of Pysyk while forgetting Kulikov has probably not played one single game at 100% yet this season. But even a pre-season analysis of this trade shows two players nearly the same age (Kulikov a little more than a year older), one has played only 125 games for a not so good team and never in the playoffs (Pysyk) who has bounced back and forth between the NHL and AHL ever sinc he made the leap from juniors. Kulikov on the other hand has played 460 nhl games, not a single game in the minors, for a slightly better team (two playoff appearances in last 5 yrs) with which he has playoff experience. How did Buffalo not get the better player in that transaction? We also acquired a player we did not have to protect along with improved draft position.

I don't really mind the trade. We traded an eh defenseman with low league perception and good fancy stats for an eh defenseman with higher league perception and bad fancy stats. Plus we traded up in the process. I don't think Kulikov is the answer but we should be able to get a 2nd or two from a contender at the deadline. Only way I see it as a bad trade is if we sign Kulikov to a monster contract.
