Holden or Skjei

One is rookie, you would be playing out of position against the other teams top players. Let's see how the other would do when he goes up against top players.

At this point, I am all for giving it a shot, and see whether people are right or not.

I think you look at things too simplistically. The fact that you can't see potential problems with playing either of those guys on the first pairing right side is

Poor player management by AV. Clendening should be rotated in regularly so he gets some ice time.
- Fenrir

I thought that was the whole point of having the guy. Play your top six one game, sit G the other, sit Staal the next, sit Klein the third, play top-six, rinse and repeat.

esp when the coach comes out and says that he saw the game against Pitt coming because of the schedule...

I really think it's because the guys that would come out are penalty killers and up until the Pittsburgh game the PK was thriving

Exactly! Does AV think he is bruising egos sitting a player? Too bad! Clendening needs to play and players should have been rested with the brutal schedule.

I think playing a rookie out of position against Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Taveres, Giroux, etc. would be disaster and would set him back.

Nick Holden has played well, but he is a guy who the Rangers got for a fourth round pick. Do you ever question whether he would look as effective if he played huge minutes against the above listed type of players.

Honestly, I just want Girardi to get traded, so I don't have to hear his name anymore, anytime the Rangers have a clunker. And then we can see how much we all like Holden or Skjei on the top pair right side.

Remember, a good portion of this blog wanted McIlrath to play big minutes last year. The same guy that passed through waivers, and can't even play a few games for the Florida Panthers.

The backup quarterback is often the most popular guy in town.

I bet Tanner Glass has sparked more blogs in his NHL career than Crosby.

look im not trying to argue here.

just my opinion that Girardi shouldnt be playing top pair mins anymore and would take the bumps along the way of Skjei playing because he will get accustomed to it and we would potentially could see a future top pair with him and Mac

I also think Holden has gotten better and better as the season has progressed and he has gotten used to AV's system and would like to see another look with him paird with Mac

It's more like; many wanted to rest G when he was just awful and we suspected he was injured. And McIlrath was a good option at that time.

vs Pittsburgh, Girardi played 17 minutes, almost 4 minutes of it killing PIMs

Holden played close to 22 minutes

I think we also have to take into account how Mcdonaghs game could really rise with a different partner..

That's true. My only point of disagreement. McIlrath was never a good option. We just tried to convince ourselves that he was, and that AV was stupid for not playing him. I think the fact that every NHL team passed him up on waivers says something about the correctness of AV's evaluation.

I don't even disagree with you guys that Girardi shouldn't be a top pair defensemen anymore. But, I also still think he is the best option given the current roster.

even if they officially announced Girardi is not on the top pairing anymore, more likely than he is still going to kill penalties with McD

You want to see less Girardi? they need to stay out of the box, this is after a few days of crying that they need to play tougher, which would mean more penalties

I'm really not. But, believe me, you move him up to the first pair, the whole Rangers universe would be crapping on him after about 10 games.
