He's been one of the bigger disappointments this season. All the 'intangibles' he's supposed to bring must take place in the locker room, because on the ice he hasn't been overly physical, kept the front of the net clear, or stuck up for teammates in any significant way.
- CubanBuffet

While I agree he hasn't been as physical as I wish I believe his presence keeps other teams in line for the most part. When Martin went after a rookie he took care of it and was vocal off the ice as well. Who else on our team can play meaningful minutes and play that role? No one.
Edit. He also has a lot of respect in the room and around the league. Florida was considering him their future captain for awhile. Also, Martin's comments after the fight demonstrated respect.

It basically proves my point, that Sbisa and Gudbranson are similar players...

Cause he will take a team in transition.
- Beatle_john

Would you not want someone with experience to takeover a team in transition and prepare them? Hitchcock will be available this summer, Yeo, Stevens, Wilson, even Hartley would be a coach I'd rather see Jarvis give it a try after 25 years

I have no issues with Gudbranson's character and leadership. In that regard, he is better than Sbisa. But his on-ice play dictates he doesn't deserve the minutes that he gets.

That, and he's gonna get PAID on his next contract from Benning

I tried to explain that... in fact, this point you are making may be the highlight of the season, if not one of them.... but it glossed over.

They actually think Sbisa is better. Sbisa? The guy who needs a GPS to go into a corner. The guy who cannot complete a pass without a receipt.

We aren't going to be competitive next year either...I am indifferent if Vegas takes Sbisa, Granlund or Bae
- CanuckDon

Most likey...so the sooner we move on from players like Sbisa and their contracts the better.

Hartley is my #1 choice but Jarvis already works for the Canucks and an internal promotion is better on the pocketbook.

I dont think Hitch would come here right now without a golden ticket contract.

Because he's responsible for all the good things we do whereas WD is to blame for the bad?

Isn't that the narrative?

- golfingsince

Right, I forgot he transformed the tire-fire of last year into this year's... umm NHLish team?

Ah makes sense Mr. Aquillini, forgot about the struggles youre having.

PS can you toss a few free tickets my way?

So you know more about his finances than others? I am not saying I do, but I know you do not go into business to hemorrhage

Gudbranson was better last year in Florida...Perhaps he has more to show (I know he does). I know some disagree but Hutton is killing him. I see EG getting criticism for a bad goal and it's because Hutton is overwhelmed and gives the puck away. Hutton is the problem.

I am actually one of the few that doesn't mind Sbisa. I think he is an adequate No 6. But I agree, they have similarities but EG is definitely a better all around player.

I am sure hes doing quite fine with the housing boom and the towers he managed to squeeze City Hall for

My point of that comment though was that hes got one of the highest valued franchise in the NHL, the value increases with quality. Its the same in construction (his forte) and with everything else. Lowest price might save a few bucks but paying extra for quality will prove better in the long run. If he hires bad people, he'll be paying double (such as when we were paying Torts while paying WD)

No.
Hutton does not collapse under pressure as frequently as E.G does.
Hutton does not pass the puck to the opposition as often as E.G does.
Hutton can actually skate the puck out of the d-zone as opposed to E.G.
Hutton actually has some semblance of offensive ability.
Hutton has played 105 games, E.G has played 339.
E.G has no excuse, Hutton does.

Annnnnd most importantly, E.G is going to command a long-term contract in the 5 million dollar range, likely becoming our highest paid guy back there.

Seriously! When the (frank) was the last time he had good game? Did we win the game where he did play well? (And don't reference the Tampa game, he was still shiat regardless of his 2pts).

If you're gonna fire WD because of the "toxic atmosphere", then the whole staff needs to go as they are all part of it.

Hutton is definitely a problem. He's had, in general a terrible year. But to say Gudbranson was better last year is misleading. He hit at about the same pace and had fewer giveaways per game... but he also played on a team that was 6th best in the league in possession metrics and yet he was a bottom 20 dman in the league in those statistics (19th worst in unblocked shot percentage... Hutton was 18th worst )

EDIT: minimum 50 games played last year

You'd think pairing those two together would produce a bit of a trainwreck
