Story will be Manning and McDavid, but let's face it, Manning was trying to get in McDavid's head...and he's got a penthouse suite. He did what he wanted to do. McDavid's 19. He'll learn from this. A guy who has aspirations on being the best player in the world can't let a 5th defenseman get into his head and get him off his game.
Great game from Giroux's line, Raffl was strong all night and got rewarded on the winner. Huge props to Bellemare's line. Those guys did a fantastic job on McDavid's line at ES and had a few shifts where they absolutely ate their lunch.
Mason had a rough night, but wasn't bad. Seemed to fight the puck a bit, but he's been seeing a ton of rubber lately. Some nights they go in. Nice to see the team pick him up on an off night, rather than needing the goalie to carry them. |

Still trying to double check, but it looks like over the winning streak Provy has matched up against Kane, Pastranak, Monahan, Jagr, Johannsen, McDavid, the Turris line and has only been on the ice for a single 5v5 goal, and has 4 points himself.
Oh, and he is only 19. |

Raffl certainly making the case that he belongs on the wing with G. Wouldn't be mad at some Raffl PP time as well. |

Coach fed 76,-78-13 to the wolves tonight. They struggled but passed the exam.
For the fans around in the 80's wasn't that a fun flashback? |

The Canadian press made Manning out to be a villain with the injury last season - also at that time it wasn't clear Manning was going to be an everyday NHL player. I watched the Oilers feed tonight and even they said they didn't see any fault in McDavid's injury last year. Either way it was talked up big time in Canada so that's where all that hype and circumstance came from. Also I'll gladly take McDavid hung up on Manning any game of the week.

I think they pretty much aced it, based on expectations. |

Hell, even McDavid's coach said it was a hockey play last season.
Manning tried to get under McDavid's skin, succeeded magnificently. |

Until the last 10 minutes they did about as good as you could hope (knowing it's an impossible task), but I also have no idea what that unit with the 4th line+AMac would look like if Provorov isn't quickly ascending into our #1 d man. They still give me the willies as our de facto "shutdown" line/pairing for the next 3 weeks or so. |

Manning will get female dog slapped in the next game. Kassian might rearrange his face like he did to Gagner a few years ago.

Gagner isn't a fighter. Manning has some game but he's not giving McDavid a fight in that game. |

That Raffl, the best defensive winger, gets no PK time is ridiculous. That he gets no PP time either is less ridiculous, but I think that unit could use more puck possession and battle winning down low. I'd replace Cousins/Weise with him. Like how does he get no special teams time at all?
I'd also say that Raffl made the case years ago that he just gels well on that top line as the perfect compliment. I was certainly someone who long-clamored for Raffl to be attached to Giroux's hip on that line instead of Schenn (though I wanted him tried as 2C when Coots went down too). He has iffy hands, but literally everything else about his game is top line quality. G and Jake have hands for days anyway. |

McDavid didn't want his own fight. He wanted his "champion" to get a fight, little weenie. |

Absolutely. His hands looked pretty solid on the game winner against Nashville and tonight - helluva finish! |

Jake and G tied for 6th in the NHL in points.
That's impressive. Even more impressive given they are not elite. |

Super. I'm sure the Flyers will enjoy the 5 minute powerplay. I mean, I doubt any Flyers fan will lose sleep over Kassian or anyone beating Brandon Manning up.
Wonder why Kassian didn't "female dog slap" Manning tonight. He had plenty of time before the Oilers pissed away the two 2 goal leads. |
